I have a mustache, ball caps, t-shirts and..
a washing machine.

If I installed some video equip. maybe my wife
could find out who's taking the socks.
I've told her we don't want to know because they have it
ruff enough needing only one.

Don't feel too sorry for that one-legged SOB - he gets around well enough to come round here too.  ;)

I genuinely didn't know that people still used laundromats these days. Is that still common in US ? I thought they had gone the way of telephone boxes and VHS, can't remember the last time I even saw one.

They're certainly common in New York because most of the old tenement apartments don't have washing machines in the building. Newer apartments either have communal machines or machines in the apartments. Back when I lived in Britain there were certainly laundromats dotted around but they were less common. When I lived in a flat without a washing machine I would lug my laundry over to my mother's place once a week.

What I don't understand is, why are people so stupid as to commit crimes in full view of cameras these days? You have to be pretty dumb not to know that you're being watched 24/7 in stores. Not only that, but this is an establishment that he frequents every week, according to the proprietor. Why risk getting arrested just for a lousy pile of t-shirts? I think some people just can't help themselves. The jails are full of 'em!

I don't expect that he's a MENSA member.

Take someone with you or follow him and get his tag number or address. I would be ticked off too, in fact it does make me mad. What is wrong with people???

What are your options?
The police who will do nothing about some tee shirts stolen.
You can ask for the back but there is no telling what you may get.
You could "get him back" by sashing his tires or something but that would make you as bad as him.
You could hire a couple of bikers (or Guido) to get your shirts once you figure out where he lives. That might be the best option unless of course they hurt the guy and say you hired them to do it.

I don't know if there is a good option. Perhaps you should take him a couple of more tee shirts, give them to him, and tell him that he has them all now. Tell him he obviously needs them more than you do. Then go get yurself some new tees.

That would be great if he had any sense of pride, which I doubt he has. He'd probably be over the moon to get some more freebies! As for following him home, that's always difficult in Manhattan because they inevitably disappear into an apartment building with 5+ floors.

Ideally I would like full payment for the t-shirts instead of getting them back, because I don't want to wear clothing that some scumbucket has worn. Gonna miss my Joe Cool one though

Teah Sharke... probably best to just forget it. That is really hard though, at least for me. First I get really mad and lose sleep etc over something like this and sinally come to my sensesbut at what point do you break? Surely one would have to go after someone if they stole a car but isn't stealing stealing? I have a hard time with it. I know better but it takes me time to get straight about some things.
I am sorry for your problems and hope you find peace about it. This guy will reap what he sows.
