Technically X3 is still a Pre-Tascam product since the deal is not final and you can rest assured Gibson/Tascam had zero to do with X3's development.
 
FWIW, I may not buy into X3 right away unless there are some exceptional reasons to do so.

It's not like Tascam owns Gibson.  It's the other way around Gibson owns 33% of Teac.  It will all depend on Gibson's plans for Cakewalk.  
 
For what it's worth, I won't buy any software that has a dongle.  So, it they change that--they'll lose me.  
 
I'm sure we'll all get Les Pauls thanks to this deal.  LOL

Should all this actually happen it will be quite interesting to see what Gibson's plans truly are.
I will also add (for what little it's worth) that if any dongle requirement becomes the their new approach X2 will be the last of my dollars going to Cakewalk.
I (along with many here) have been with Cakewalk since '93 or so and love the software/company but the dongle would certainly end the loyalty for me.
I'd guess X2 will suffice until I go below the dirt anyway. :)

yes, but it's already eminent that Tascam WILL take over after X3 and since anything following X3 WILL be a Tascam product I'm not sure it makes sense to spend the money on X3 when instead I might change DAW paths.
and FWIW, I had said the same thing earlier also, so that plays into my decision as well.  X3 would need to have some really good improvements in order for me to spend the money on it anyway.  that didn't have anything to do with Tascam, but Tascam taking over is only going to drive the nail further in the coffin.
