I may well not buy X3 either, but not because I have a  grudge against a new owner. Unless there are some really useful new features in MIDI and softsynth  technology, I probably already have as much Sonar as I will ever use. I have long ago given up on notation. Things like pitch correction and loop construction are useless to me, and  most of the audio processing plugins are almost useless for someone who primarily uses a microphone for sampling.

DAW software is rapidly reaching the point that office suites hit with Office 2000. New "innovations" are pretty much not applicable to the work they are meant to do. Will Sonar X3 have an associated cloud account?

I've said before and I'll say again...TASCAM will not receive another dollar of mine for software!

I'll switch DAWs first or just continue to use what I have...PRE-TASCAM software.

Good luck ...with whatever you do.

If forums had been around in 1965:

"I won't buy another Fender guitar because CBS cancelled the Honeymooners"

That writer would be kicking himself today for missing out on a chance to buy a pre-CBS Strat at normal retail. Perhaps the incentive to buy X3 is to grab the last pre-TASCAM version. Think of the resale value in 20 years!

Do great minds think similarly? Since I do not have a great mind, I'm not sure.

your analogy disappointes me bit!  you're a bitflipper!  you know that software will not retain any kind of value like hardware will.

Extrapolation can sometimes be a healthy thing....just sayin'.

Since I never looked at software as a one time thing I don't feel the need to get attached to it either way. It does what it does and it will continue to be modified to better suit most interests. If nothing ever happened platforms and software would become obsolete with the rest of the world. By it's very nature software must keep developing or the income stream will dry up. If a person wants to keep making midi with that old Atari that's up to them but it won't change the inevitable progression. We can hang onto an older version for a pretty long time and it will still be valid but eventually the hardware will fail and the old replacements won't be available, so I see it as pay us now or pay us later or pay someone else but if you're in the game you need the change eventually...........did I see a bacon guitar ?  Why is it ok to have GAS unless it's software? To me GAS is GAS either way.
