O do feel the days of the 99 dollar upgrade from producer to producer are gone, never to return ..
 
SO it boils down to do you fee the $51 is worth the additional content AND possible super dooper audio engine .

I agree, and in all fairness George, it did used to be an annual $199 to upgrade at one time.
 
I would also concur that the real value also depends on what you already have in your DAW arsenal. Of the new toys that come bundled with Producer, I only (already) own the Blues Tube plugs, so Melodyne, Addictive Drums, Lounge Lizard and even Straum Acoustic (I don't own an acoustic geetar) are very nice and welcome additions indeed.
 
Added to the Tape Emulator and Quad-curve EQ enhancements in the Pro-Channel, plus what looks like an intuitive and much-needed redesign of Take Lanes and a return to Colour Customisations (my two major beefs with X2), this is well worth the upgrade for me.

I'm making a complete arse out of myself upstairs trying to get them to release a Producer version without all the extra crap for $50 and one with the useful integrated crap like Melodyne, the QuadCurve and Tape Sim for $100.
 
It's probably p*ssing them (and others) off but damn... I don't NEED another Rhodes sim or drum program or freaking MIDI guitar thingy or a bunch of third party plugs.
 
The Quad looks great though. Just not $150 of great.

Well, out of the blue I have had a windfall (that truly brought a tear to my eye) that allowed me to become an early adopter of X3. It is downloading now. Looks to be 5 hours away though....
 
I am about to start a solo project (not the Straumpu & The CHC project just getting underway) that I will use X3 for.
 
 
@Jan - Rmix is gone but if you own X2 then you still can install it from there.

Hi Alex - I've thrown some pretty heavy stuff at it for the last hour
and so far not one issue.
 
It opened a project from X2a and not one issue. (albeit a simple one and X2a was wigged out about it)
 
I've played with some of the new Nomad effects and Tape Emulator for the pro channel
and I've liked everything so far.
 
There is so much that a couple of hours sure doesn't hit on much....
All the Spectrasonics stuff is working and no issues yet.
 
I previously had Melodyne "singletrack" 2.1.1 (64 bit) and no problem(s). X3a recognized
and it and everything else with not one issue. I haven't done anything with Melodyne yet.
 
I've pushed X3a with 8 tracks of active Guitar Rig 5 and the Trilian, Omnisphere and Stylus
and it's jammin' right along.
 
There seems to be more activity on the processor cores...maybe it's balancing out more with
X3...I don't know but glad to see it, or placebo effect of it not crashing or doing weird stuff.lol
 
Don't know about the video...I use Vegas so not interested.
 
Don't know about the colors...I have it on the "bright" preset and good enough for me.
 
The price? I could drop that much on taking the family out to dinner so I'm sure not going to
butt heads with if it's worth it or not. If it continues to perform as it has for the last few hours
it's a no-brainer...if not...ain't worth spit. (I've felt that way about some meals I paid for too!)
 
So a pretty tuff run with audio and midi and not one issue yet. Hope it stays that way.
 
Install was nothing but a time thing. I saved the downloads and then let it do it's thing.
All the info was in my Cake account by the time I left the purchase page and got there.
 
 
 Spent some time with colors....Nice to group channels with. Easy to set to without having to go into preferences.

It likely is and I probably shouldn't pick at my scabs but damn if I'm not disappointed at the lack of maintenance for X2 (which would be almost perfect if it wasn't so weird). I was over it and was ready to move on but now I see they're saying they're going to be supporting the fart out of X3. Kind of rubbing salt in the wounds with that one.
 
Oh well. That's what being me is all about. Looking at C7 Essentials or maybe Studio One to do my tracking/editing in. Mixing in X2 Pro is fine.

@Beeps - you're not pi$$ing me off but it really is a lost cause (IMO). Companies generally do not operate that way. And if you saw the three year stats for CW they lost money in 2012 (the year of the $99 Producer Upgrade).
 
FWIW, I worked with a numbers guy many years ago where he said he had to raise his prices on his product. He decided on a 6% increase. I asked if he was afraid of losing customers and he said he expected to lose 3% of his existing customers due to the price hike but the 6% would make up for the loss. After six months of the price increase I asked him what percentage he lost as customers. 1.2% was his answer. Six months later he was back to his customer level before the price hike.

"Early adopters?"  I started with Cakewalk v1.0!  Can't be more of an early adopter than that, ya?

Cheers. I know and I'll get over it but after everything I read about the company before I bought made it seem that they weren't quite as lecherous as others. I don't even think it's Cakewalk themselves but the higher ups. Hopefully Gibson does better. The most frustrating part though is X2 is absolutely perfect for me. It's EXACTLY how I want to work but the darned thing flakes out at the worst times. Not even that badly most of the time but enough to screw up my flow or steal a few hours of productivity. If it just worked a LITTLE better I'd be golden.

I'm sure that after his heavy meal the other day, Bapu's confident answer means that he is right, but the info for X3 Pro on Sweetwater site says it's included.

No, for what R-Mix does, you'll need to keep using R-Mix. It's a Roland product and so obviously it (as well as V-Vocal) is not included in a non-Roland product like X3. And of course you have a non-retractable license to use the X2 supplied R-Mix.
