So far I'm on the fence.

I really don't "need" any more plugins, and most of the ones I might buy nowadays would fit a fairly specialized need anyway. AFAIK, nothing I have currently is VST3, so I can't take advantage of any of the supposed "benefits" of VST3.

So I'm mostly sort of looking for the under the hood stuff at this point. Some of the other stuff might be nice, but I'm not sure how compelling it is so far.

Of course a part of me wants it just because it's there, but for $150 I think I can wait a bit and see how things shake out with the people who are neither fanbois or haters.

It is good to hear that spacey appears to having better luck with it so far though (knock on wood).

No R-mix listed. No V-Vocal listed.

Edit: Beeps found this. He hit the 50 posts max headroom just now.

Yeah, I saw that.  It's what made me curious about RMIX.  I'd forgotten about V-Vocal, but I guess Melodyne really does the same thing, so that's understandable.  Now I'm curious if one of those modules does the RMIX function.  I didn't see any names that look like it.

From what I understand the X2 versions will still function in X3...just so you know..

I have X2, so I should be able to use them.  I just more curious about functionality and marketing of X3.  I imagine there are other functions have been lost if you don't have X2.

Maybe there should be a similar table comparing X2 with X3.

I must admit this is the first X-one I'm tempted to buy.

I'm tempted too, this does look like the DAW X1 intended to be but has taken three major revisions to get to.

I guess it was far to ambitious a move to try to get to this stage in one go but you could see where the X series was trying to get to in that much of the functionality was hinted at in partially functioning 'stubs', such as Take Lanes in X2 which were obviously were headed in the direction of the comping approach that's been standard in other products for a good while now, but the implementation in X2 was only partial and that is being polite.

Some are upset about X2 not recieving maintenance updates but in reality each release is really a maintenance update and the price was always an issue in that you couldn't fund the amount of development required in the timescale given the previous policy of 'cheap' so it's actually re-assuring the prices have increased slightly and the upgrade options have been simplified.

It does look like that X3 has brought Sonar back into step if not in advance of developments made to other current products which is quite impressive given how much of a set-back the X series represented when X1 made such a stir for all the wrong reasons at its launch.

One of the other big issues that Sonar defectors are still citing is quality of fit and finish which when compared with products as bullet-proof as Studio One and Reason in terms of stability and issue resolution it will remain to be seen over the next few months how 'buggy' this version is and how many long-standing issues still exist.

It would be nice to think there's a new Sonar I can 'come home' to, and this is looking more like it even the inclusion of 3rd party stuff that some are complaining about I see as a good thing because at least some recognizable products are being included such as Melodyne and Addictive drums over the cheesy 'Cakewalk' compromises that V-Vocal and Session Drummer that have been offered in the past.

At first glance though I'm giving it the thumbs up!
