Did you even watch the video Rain?

Are you (ya'll) really going to compare a host communicating with a piece of hardware with host/software?

Nevermind....pretend I didn't mention this feature. I think now I know why Bat prefers a knob on a Boogie.

I can't say that I have watched the video. I had already posted about maybe investigating the StudioWare option - which can be used to control and automate similar devices, such as the Line 6 POD.

This post was a complement to Starise's who mentioned the software equivalent of Eleven rack. You asked what that was, and I provided the link.

Personally, I don't have a dog in that fight but I can see why the feature is desirable. Hence my comment about StudioWare.

Pretty strange....I realized that my question about the software had been answered although "software" wasn't my interest I appreciated the answer.

You're right too that it seems much more a fight than a post of a feature I hadn't realized existed as I made it a point to get away from all the hardware I could...and have.
Midi hardware I kept but it has seemed to be one way communication and maybe due to my lack of understanding of midi capabilities the units may have.

i just reach up to my boogie, and turn my master preamp gain up, or down.

it's amazing.

Thanks Bat. Bye.

hehe, aw c'mon, spacey, i'm just yankin your chain.

i remember when i got my first midi device (ART SGE) and the foot controller for it, i thought that was a miracle.

i would think anything with midi in/out should be able to change parameter of any midi device in line......
i had a buddy who had a roland guitar synth set up that way......
but i never tried programming it, don't know how easy/hard it might have been...

It's tuff trying to keep up conversing with so many seperately ...I'm trying...
Yeah I have a few Roland midi units and the controller set-up on a Strat but didn't realize that those settings could be recalled and sent to the units via the recorded track in X2a.
I've used a lot of midi stuff that I can't duplicate and all that's left is what is on the recordings...would be nice if I had known how to set it right I guess.

Hey Drew, were you using MIDI Quest and/or Soundquest?

SoundDiver, which was IMHO much better.

I bought it about a month or two before Apple bought emagic. Not surprisingly they immediately discontinued all the Windows stuff, but sadly they also dropped SD.

It's so old we're talking Win98 days and I had to figure out how to hack the config files to get it to work with XP. Interestingly, my hack still works with Win8.

So it's been done for 10 yrs + .
One would think there would be more available if it's such a cool feature. Maybe there is or maybe
it's not a good feature.
I know about one and I like it. Would like to try it out without having to pay. Wish sometimes I lived close to Sweetwater.

Maybe all this time all of the Roland midi guitar settings I've used could have been saved and recalled by the projects and I didn't know it.  ? Are you saying that's right Drew?

Roland stuff is actually one of the ones that will likely work as they tend to have a temporary buffer area that stores that current patch along with any changes made, and it can be queried via sysex request and also updated via sysex. And if you queried and saved the sysex, Cakewalk has long allowed you to send sysex automatically.

Unfortunately it's not necessarily user friendly, and Roland's sysex documentation is rather cryptic - possibly hopelessly so if you are not technically inclined in such areas. But that's part of the problem with this kind of thing - somebody has to figure out how to translate the low level sysex implementation of every device into something usable, even if the SW supported it. And given that a user friendly integration didn't really happen in the days when HW synths still ruled the world, there's not likely to be enough demand for it now.

So it's probably easier to do by saving a patch and just recalling it.

Wasn't ignoring you Drew...been too busy. Thanks for the info even though I don't understand anything about sysex.
I do know, because I have Roland midi units, that it is easy enough to save/recall presets and make notes in a project about them.

Well nothing as been presented to suggest that there is anything other than that unit and that company that is offering that feature.

Personally I have no use for it BUT if I were a guitarist in a working band and doing home recording I would be taking a serious look at it.
I also think that if where a feature that worked with other very popular units such as the Kemper and Axe units that it would be attractive. Just nice having settings "remembered" by the project and being able to quickly recall them.

As far as the PT software? I don't know. Until the day I use it, if ever, I won't. I know they are and have been going through major changes so it will more than likely be a trip for their users...and probably not much different than what many of us have been dealing with BUT that is not what or why I posted.

It is simply a feature that is offered that I know of no other and can see where it would be very cool for a gigging/home recording guitarist...thought it was cool enough to share the idea of the feature.
Some may think that the hauling the software version of the unit to the stage and studio is the same...I don't but I'm cool with agree to disagree.

Maybe X4 will link with Robo LP and recall tunings/settings lol.

Welcome back Michael!

Thanks Craig!

I really didn't think I'd be back.
I came close to "changing everything".
There are only so many hours and so much energy and sometimes
it's not so much a question of balance as it is of "how much" one tries to balance.

Music has been slowly being chipped away for years. If I can manage to hang on to
just playing a guitar for the duration I'll be very happy about it all. :) So far that is about
all that is in the balance.

Yep...came close to getting rid of computers in my life...except for work and unfortunately the
corporate world still controls to much of my life...only for a few more years if it's my way.

LOL...that's exactly what I'm talking about.
Waking in the morning dealing with computers all day, getting home and dealing with 5 of them...I'm
not going to spend what's left dealing with these pieces of plastic crap.
I think that fact has been made crystal clear on the home-front. Nicely, I should add- I didn't throw any of them in the trash this time :)
For the corporate coin reward...I'm smart to keep collecting and face piles of pastic crap trials with smiles.
