I really could not imagine "not playing" the bass on my tunes? I believe the bass is the easiest stringed instrument there is to learn? You have to think like a bass player though? After that, it's all down hill from there. And you have to think like a bass player if you're doing it on a keyboard, or a VST app as well? So why not play the bass? 
 
Play the bass people? I know there are bass players out there? Like me? Play the damn bass...

The bass guitar is one of the easiest instruments to play "reasonably well?" So I strongly recommend that you get one, "and play it." This instrument anchors everything else? It locks the groove in w/the drums? IMO, it is the single most important aspect... But then again, I'm a bass player? So take that with a grain or two of salt...

You will not be able to upgrade the Shreddage 1 to Shreddage 2.  You cannot resell Impact Soundwork products, generally you'd have to ask and it's up to them.
 
If you buy this then your kinda stuck with it.
 
I don't own but I have read Shreddage is pretty good if you need straight forward metal guitars for your music.  Not the best but simple and cheap price.

I think it's an excellent value, but don't expect to make any unique-sounding music with it. It's aimed at a specific, narrowly-defined genre. If you want to quickly throw together some generic music with minimal effort, Shreddage is to metal what Nexus is to EDM. Sounds nice, but it also sounds like every wannabe metal band on the planet. Throw on some angry cookie-monster vocals and you'll wow all the other kids at your high school.
 
OTOH, if you're someone who creates generic music on purpose, say for soundtracks or video games, it'd probably be a handy tool to have.
