My X2a recognizes Element just fine, and it plays and loads presets just fine...BUT...should I try to delete it from my project or just close the project I get the "Sonar.exe has experienced a problem and must close" crash dialog.  Every dang time.  I'm talkin to the waves fellers about it and in fact, they've just asked me do something very interesting....

see my separate post re this problem.

Just picked up Gtr Solo for $5 or about £3 - less than the price of a alcoholic beverage(or a pint as we say)
Maybe not in the same league as some of the big boys, but very usable, and for $5 an absolute steal!!

I haven't bought Element, but I'd like to say for the record that I haven't had any issues with any Waves plugs showing up or opening in Sonar X1 or X2.

[I have about 15 of them, not including my 7 new ones.]

Maybe I just got lucky!

I have at least 50 Waves Plugins....and they all work just fine in ALL
my DAW's.....

X2 had problems when it first appeared with Waves Plugins....but I found a work around, and the problem was fixed by X2a...

Other then that...no problems with Waves whatsoever....in ANY of my DAW's....and I use 5 DAW's all the time...

How does the Kramer MPX compare to others like Reelbus or Ferric? I'm tempted by it and the One knob bundle.

Kramer MPX is good.  A few years ago it was one of the two reel/tape programs that were the all the rage, the "standards" so to speak; the other was UAD Studer.  I like MPX and it gives a realistic, warm tape saturation; of course it has several different tape speeds and wow and flutter etc.  Then Nomad Factory came out with Magnetic (and Magnetic II) and it was all the rave.  Then TB came out with their very affordable ReelBus.  To be honest, I now use Magnetic and ReelBus more than Kramer MPX, not for any rational reason, just because I like their sound.  I have Ferric, but I never use it only because I have the others and they work for me.

I honestly don't regret getting MPX, and right now is the time to get it while it is on sale.  I hope others will chime in and perhaps give more rational info on MPX.  [Edit:  I just checked and saw what the price was on AudioDeluxe with the $50 discount.  WOW.  For this price, I would go on an get it; it is certainly worth grabbing it if you are ever considering getting it.  I have never seen it for this price (counting in the discount).]]

WOW.....$44.10???  That is absolutely the lowest I've seen...

It's a great plugin.... a little heavy on CPU..but still great...with some really nice presets
and lots of flexibility...

For that price....WOW..that's all I have to say...

I hope it is ok to post this excerpt from the email I received from Cakes Tech Support. If not, Its' been nice knowing you all but here is what they sent me:

"Thank you for contacting Cakewalk Technical Support. You will see a recap of our phone conversation below. If you have another support question please visit http://www.cakewalk.com/support/contact/ts.aspx or call 617-423-9021.
Thank you for choosing Cakewalk!

Problem/Questions: When inserting any of the Waves plug-ins into SONAR X2a, there is a white screen and a crash.

Solutions: According to your dump files, mfc100u.dll was where the problem was.
Typically when a lot of C++ components are crashing, I usually recommend people try installing their Microsoft C++ Redistributable Libraries. Many third-party applications will install these so sometimes the libraries can get skewed as multiple versions exist on the same computer. This may be why things are running smooth on one computer but not another. It might not be SONAR at all, but more so the C++ libraries. Here's what I would do:

Go to Start > All Programs > Programs and Features and to uninstall any Microsoft C++ Redistributable Packages listed. Afterwards, I would re-download these packages directly from Microsoft and re-install them. I have listed the most common Redistributable packages below. If you’re on a 32-bit operating system, I'd get the first three. If you’re on a 64-bit operating system, the second three. If you run both 32-bit and 64-bit SONAR on a 64-bit operating system, install them all.

For 32-bit operating systems or 32-bit programs on 64-bit operating systems:

For 64-bit operating systems:

I hope this helps on that front."

I can't guarantee that the above links are still good.

On my system I have both x86 and x64 for the 2005, 2008, and 2010 plus I have a 2012 x64. The important thing is that you do not have two of the same pacakge with different version numbers. After the waves install I had two of the 2005 x64 with different version numbers. I just un-installed the oldest version and I'm working now.

Thank you!  I have over 50 of this redistributable thingies and I am scared of uninstalling them.

- should I uninstall all of them and then just use the links above?  Just want to be sure.

I too have the same crash issues as everyone.  Plus I bought the RS56 eq.  It installed fine, Sonar scanned it.  Yet when I try to open the GUI, it doesn't work.  Not sure if that is related to this.

Hi munmun,

The safe thing to do would be to contact Cake Support and let them help you out as they sorted it for me by diagnosing the dump file created by Sonar.

The other option is to ensure you have a good image of the system drive and then follow the instructions above to the letter. I would make note of the current versions you have installed because you may also need the 2012 package which can also be found on the Microsoft site.

Wish I could help more but I would not want to lead anyone down the wrong path.

Kind regards,
Rick
