I can actually find it here in California every now again.  The brand I usually find is called Ski Queen.  It still says Gjetost on the label.  It's a little sweet, like Marmite, some wouldn't like it.  I don't think I'd use it on a ham and cheese sandwich or on a burger.  It's just fine by itself on a slice of bread or toast.

Yeah, my friends in Oz find it too, but I have never seen the Ski Queen any where here in Norway. It's probably called Gjetost because of some licensing issues or whatever. It's actually a dessert cheese but it's perfect on bread, especially toast! I wouldn't compare it to Marmite though, but that could just be me ;)

I didn't mean to make a direct comparison to the 'Mites.  Just that many people prefer savory cheese and may find a sweet cheese like gjetost an "acquired taste".

I understand. Yes, "acquired taste" is probably right;)
