  • Are the free standing NI Komplete apps 32 or 64 bit?

I figured out the VST part, now I'm wondering if any of the free standing apps are 64bit.

I ended up with some stuff in C:\Program Files (x86)\Native Instruments\, as well as C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\.

The  programs that I got off my Komplete 5 went to the (x86) directory and the stuff I got off my Komplete 7 went to the other directory.

It doesn't seem to matter but I'd like to know what the best housekeeping would have been.

Thanks.

c:\Program Files\ = 64bit
c:\Program Files (x86)\ = 32bit

That's why there are 2.

Also, I'm not sure what version of Windows you're on (or how this works in Win7 64), but Win8's Task Manager will tell you whether a running program is 32bit or 64bit.

Usually upon install the Programs give you the option to

a) install either 64 bit or 32 bit or BOTH
b) the option of WHERE to place those apps...

So, it usually a choice you make during the install...

Komplete 7 did give me that choice with the 32/64 plugins but it didn't address the idea when it came to choosing the place to put the free standing apps. It just asked me where I wanted to put them and I said "Program Files" before I thought about it too much.

I'm on Win7 Pro x64. I opened Task Manager and don't really see that they say one or the other although I do see that some small programs have a *32 after them in the processes list.

I launched all the 32bit N.I. apps that I installed with Komplete 5 and by looking in Task Manager I see that many of them are now 64bit.  I assume the change over happened with the updates.

I have Battery 3, FM8, Guitar Rig 3, Kontakt 3, Massive, and Reaktor 5 all running as 64 bit apps but they are installed in the Program Files (x86) directory.

Even with the benefit of hindsight I am not sure how I could have navigated the install to get where I want to be.

I know it doesn't really matter, but this is the last chance for me to think about this stuff before I move forward and live with what ever little gotchas I have stumbled into for the next 5-10 years lifespan of this DAW.

Would you even ever use the free standing apps in Sonar?
The only time I use the free standing version of a plug-in (for NI or other vendor) is to sample or test patches; i.e pick out which one's I'd like to check out try in a project.
In most cases useless the app has a virtual keyboard I usually just ignore it and use SaviHost instead.

No, just as free standing.

Here's what I am going with:

From Komplete 5 install 32 bit versions of:
-Absynth 4
-Akoustik Piano
-B4II
-Electrik Piano
-Pro 53
installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\

From Komplete 5 install 32 bit versions of:
Battery 3
Guitar Rig 3
Kontakt 3
installed in C:\Program Files\. These will be replaced with 64bit with updates that are available

From Komplete 7 install versions of:
-Absynth 5
-Guitar Rig 4
-Kontakt 4
-Rammfire
-Reflektor
-Traktors 12
installed in C:\Program Files\. These will be 64bit or get updated to 64bit

Thanks.

best regards,
mike
