You are absolutely right about the NI activation.
Decided to spring for the Komplete 9 Ultimate upgrade over the weekend.
Though not cheap, there's a lot of useful content in the upgrade.
Looking forward to checking out the Reverb/Dynamics/EQ (algorithms from Softube).

Jim, good move on the K9U upgrade.  Having the new NI effects (Reverb Classics, Premium Tube, and Vintage Compressor series) is currently the only way to get Softube quality without the iLok.  :-)

Small side note on NI effects: you probably already know this, but there's a good convolution reverb in Guitar Rig (Reflektor) and yet another cool reverb in Reaktor (Space Master 2, which is very similar to the Redline reverb).   These can be run in your DAW same as any other plugin, of course.

Cheers,
Eddie

Rats. I spoke too early. Just activated my new Softube purchases and now these are the only two iLok plugins that work.

edit: after reboot everything works fine.

Finally got all my new plugs activated and everything seems to be working fine...but it would take me a while to plough through all my plugs. I'll keep ya posted.

I have been away from all things DAW for over a month, just playing guitar, so I've skipped the iLok upgrade last weekend and won't bother with it before a while I guess. Judging from what I see, it's a good thing...

Guess I will have to plow through that list of plugs to make sure everything is still working.  I don't see anything looking like it's been converted to temporary in my license list but you never know.  Sheesh.

Jim, you mean IK won't let you use products you've bought and paid for?  Isn't that some kind of breach of agreement?  How can they get away with that?  Absurd!

Last time I upgraded my DAW (new CPU), the easiest non-iLok plugins for me to get back up and running (of those with copy protection) were the ones from NI.  I find their system to be very easy.  Waves weren't too bad either, but their scheme isn't exactly simple or bulletproof.

Hi Eddie,

To be fair, if I call IK... I'm sure I can get the issue resolved.
For me, I guess it comes down to, "Which of the two is less of a PITA?"

If there is anything I can do to help please let me know. The Custom Shop shouldn't hinder your production or use of our products after they have been activated and "restored".

Just saw this:

Dear iLok User Community,
We have let you down and we know it. We could have done a better job communicating that we were hard at work to resolve the issues some of you were having and for that we are truly sorry. ... We handle tens of millions of licenses for users, some dating back over decades with legacy code, and while we have worked to ensure a seamless transition, some issues occurred.
After extensive research, we isolated the issue to licenses that were of type “Update” and that had been downloaded to an iLok. If you were among the first who logged in on Sunday night or Monday and had an iLok with “Updates” on it, you may have been affected by an error with our initial data migration.
This error has been addressed and corrected. We have completed an additional data migration that resolves the type discrepancy for all affected licenses.
If you believe you were affected and your Update license (now shown as type “License”) does not authorize your software, the following steps will solve this issue: Launch the iLok License Manager application Insert the iLok with the licenses that are not working Deactivate those licenses from the iLok (use the menu Licenses > Deactivate) Re-activate your licenses back to the iLok If you are still experiencing difficulties please go to ilok.com/support and follow the Guided Help to contact us and we will work with you to resolve your issues. We are monitoring our support tickets closely during extended support hours to make matters right.
We appreciate your continued support.

Yup...checked my plugs last night and...my Melodyne's not working anymore.  It says it's active, but it ain't.  Guess I'll have to try Andrew's method above...tho it sounds pretty scary to "deactivate" anything on an iLok.  I'll keep ya posted.

Hey Andew...how in heck do I know if my Melodyne Editor 2 was an "update" license...where would I see that??

I'll be glad to tell you something else Andrew, ol pal...you should just have a simple contact email on your site AND NOT a bunch of cumbersome, cryptic dialogs that seem meant to keep people from contacting you guys.  It doesn't help your already tarnished reputation to not have a VERY easy contact method via email AND phone.  Honest.

Yep, olpal, judging from that mammoth thread on GS, the iLok woes have yet to be fully resolved, despite what PACE says.  It's a full-blown fiasco.

Up to now, I've never had an issue with the iLok, and I still think it's a good solution for copy protection.  But the iLok itself is not to blame for this mess.  The problem is that whoever is running PACE is clearly incapable of managing an IT-based system.  There are established and proven methods to roll out new systems in a reliable manner.  At a minimum, you keep your user base informed and keep your legacy system available in case of problems. Nobody at PACE seems to be aware of these basic principles, which anyone can learn in Information Systems 101. This is unacceptable for something that is mission-critical for so many enterprises.

The best possible outcome from all this would be for some of the heavy-hitters in the DAW/plugin business to get together to buy out PACE and form a non-profit consortium whose mission is to maintain the iLok infrastructure properly.  This entity would be run by true IT professionals who run things in a transparent manner.  If such people had been at PACE already, we wouldn't be here talking about this.
Cheers,
Eddie

What a waste.

It's a system dedicated to minimizing opportunity cost rather than fostering opportunity.

That's from Intro to Micro 101.

It's an extortion racket. I hope the IP owners are considering the true bottom line value of caving in to an extortion racket and directing customers to communicate with an extortionist enterprise.
