Hi,
MAKE SURE ... you go to NETWORK SOLUTIONS and REGISTER, your OWN website ... sorry caps ... but this is very important, so YOU own the rights to your website and it can not be stolen.
Then you can go to any Web Hosting company and setup your website and such and ... then you go to the "settings" or "dns info" and you plug in there the information that you get from the Network Solutions ... and voila ... the Web Hosting service ONLY hosts your website.
Go Daddy, and many of the others, try to get you to do THEIR thing, and in the end, you no longer own the rights to your website with your name and you will have a hard time legally to get it off their hands! Specially as the web site gets more hits, or you get better known.
I used Ipage.com, but my registrar (as it is called) is Network Solutions.
When you own your own, just about ANY Web Hosting group is good enough since the size of things today is not an issue ... but there are some that do not want you streaming a whole lot and such ... the kind of details you have to check if you want to add music to your web site instead of a link to another place.
Prices ... Registrar is about 25/30 dollars per Year. My iPage is about 60 dollars per year ... so it is not out of the question to say ... put aside 100 dollars every year for your website, or about 9 bux each month.
IF, your website gets traffic that is up and above normal, they will ask you to upgrade to a business account and that costs a bit more, but it also has more goodies ... that take a bit more work to setup like ... you can sell a cd directly from your web site and such ... (and make sure you keep records ... the irs is on a war on these things, btw!).
