Hi. Just got a email for 50% discount on upgrade from melodyne essential to editor. I see that it has DNA technology. But do I need it? How are you guys using editor?

I love Melodyne Edtitor. Not only is it great on correcting vocals, it's great for converting audio to midi. Well worth the upgrade. IMHO

In terms of correcting vocals, is it any different to Essential?

I've never used Essentials, but I'm guessing it'll be a big step up. More editing features such as vibrato control and pitch slides. Best of all, you can edit multiple tracks in one window, which is great for matching levels and phrasing.

One of my big asks has been a tool to align vocal tracks to get perfect alignment.  Is this possible in Editor?

Essentials is basically a single track at a time. Editor will do multiple tracks.

I find that Auto Snap does a pretty decent job of alining the vocals.

I use Audiosnap for alignment rather than Melodyne if lining things up is all thst's needed.

In essentials you can't correct the pitch within a note, at least to my knowlege. So, if the singer slides to a pitch with the first part flat and you want to correct only the first part essentials won't do that. I was hoping they would have a "sale" for the Essentials to Assistant upgrade but haven't seen it.

I think you can do that in Essentials Jim, but you have to split the note first. I am without DAW for a couple more weeks, while away on business.... so I can't verify that. That is what I remember though from the last time I needed to pitch correct a drift. Essentials is basically a single track pitch corrector. You can adjust timing with it, but I find audiosnap easier. Mainly, because you can line up multiple tracks and adjust timing by hand to be the same.

Thanks Mike. I couldn't figure how to split a note. The right click options have delete, copy etc. so I assumed there was no way to split a note. I should have dug out the manual.

I use Audiosnap for timing also and it works well.
