Mike,

I've had to use an older computer before to download stuff onto the iLok.  And it worked fine on the newer computer - that is the point.  Drag the iLok between machines w/ all your authorizations dongled.

I think I had the same situation - sounds like it anyway.

Surely you have an old machine - or someone you know does.  Use that to get the dongle right.

Hi Mike

This also caused me no end of frustration. I tried everything until the following worked:

- You need to use your 32-bit IE10.

- Although you're likely on Win 7 (64-bit)?, you should have 2 versions of IE10 on your Start Menu >>> All Programs. One will say 64-bit, the other will say nothing. The one with nothing beside is the 32-bit version. However, sometimes the 64-bit one may have nothing beside it and the 32-bit version may have (x86) beside it. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

- Once you have IE10 32-bit running, press ALT on the keyboard to get access to Internet Explorer's Menu bar. Go to 'Tools' >>> 'Internet Options' >>> 'Advanced' tab, scroll quite far down and check the box which says "Allow active content to run in files on my computer".

- Close IE10 down.

- Start IE10 up again.

- Go to the iLok website. Plug your iLok in and then log in (all in the order I wrote it).

- Look out for IE10's little message at the bottom of the browser asking if you want to allow iLok.com to run Active X or something or another along those lines. I can't recall exactly what it says. Click Allow/Yes to this.

- You should now be logged in with everything working fine with your iLok and licenses showing up in your account.

See how you get on with this. Worth a try. It works for me. No more XP boot ups for me just for the iLok.

iLok.  noun
1. Anagram of the name, Loki
2. a small device that plugs into a computer and is purported to serve as an adapter or as a security measure to enable the use of certain software, but in reality is a Hardware Virus.
3. a practical joke by an alien race known as the Mac-Hiavellians.  Considered to be in extremely poor taste throughout all galaxies.
4. derogatory term usually screamed at the top of one's voice while raising a fist in a manner reminiscent of Captain Kirk screaming the name, KHAN!!!
5 the end of Western Civilization.  Well, it had a good run.

When WAVES left iLok I imagine that was like a mall losing its biggest anchor store.  Shouldn't be long now before Slate, Soundtoys and the like follow suit. Just a matter of time. That's also probably why iLok hasn't updated since dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Why bother?

Yeah, it's a frustrating procedure alright.

I use Mozilla 3.6 when I want to update my iLok. It's the only thing I could get to work.

Another perfect example of the tail wagging the dog. You spend thousands on software and it grinds to a halt because of a dongle worth $5. Not what they charge, but likely what it costs them.

Nonsense!
