You obviously completely overlooked my post about this in
your other iLok thread Mike....

Would have saved you 5 hours of frustration....

I'm using Safari 5 (on OSX) and no issue w/ iLok - even though the site says optimized for version 4.

As much as I dislike the dongle, ever since I started using one w/ Pro Tools last year, I must admit that I never had any issue w/ it.

OTOH, I've had authorization/copy protection issues with:

Cakewalk instruments (many times)
IK Multimedia Plug-ins/libraries (many times)
Focusrite plug-ins (twice, now fixed)
Korg instrument plug-ins (2 or 3 times in 1 1/2 month)
Arturia instruments (once)
SSL's Duende Code Meter (once)

If you ask me, the absolute worst type of copy protection is - by far - the soft version of the traditional dongle, like Arturia is using. It is much worst than the actual hardware. But any authorization method can give you issues and they all can cause a significant downtime.

So far, the hardware dongle is the only method that has not let me down at one point or another. I've also been lucky w/ Waves, but I consider the cloud to be similar to other methods already mentioned above which have failed at one time or another for me.

I know you were on my side. :-)

When I saw it work with the old laptop it seemed so smooth...

I wonder if merely having the other 64bit IE install is causing the trouble? Do you have the 64bit version?

When I launch from the (x86) folder I can't find anything in "about" that makes it seem different from the 64 bit version.

It just stalled when I did it and then timed out to my account page.

Thanks for the info!

best regards,
mike
You bet I'm on your side...

I pulled my hair out figuring out that it required a 32 bit Browser...

I wasn't on this forum when I originally installed it...so didn't have the luxury...and no internet connection either..LOL

But, since then I know that it needs a 32 bit browser...

I've just demo'd Lexicon LXP....which is awesome...and the Demo license installed without a hitch with IE 32 bit..

btw....IE 10 32 bit doesn't tell you it's 32 bit...

There is a gear in the upper right hand corner, and the drop down has "about"

Mine says IE 10.0.9200.16540
Update 10.0.4

Nothing as to whether or not it's 64 or 32 bit...

All I know is I can download my iLok licenses with it...LOL

I resisted & resisted & resisted buying an ilok, thinking I just know this $5 thing isn't worth $40.

But at the time, Waves plugs required it.

So I bit my tongue, grabbed my credit card, scratched my nackers & bought one.

Sure enough, the 'piece of s*it' crapped out in less than a year.

Waves have since bailed on it - and so have I.

Now any plugs I shop for or even just look at - as soon as I see 'ilok required', I'm gone.

My Waves License Cloud sits on a simple Kingston USB Flash Drive now - just $8 dollars - and still going strong without a hitch.

I just went through this same thing yesterday.  I finally got an email from PACE saying I had to use Firefox 3.6 or whatever and I was finally able to download the software upgrade I needed to transfer my Melodyne license.

I hate it, hate it, hate it--and take every opportunity I can to notify vendors of that, asking them to reconsider their piracy protection in the future.

If you have some time, give what I wrote a try. My guess is that your your IE(x86) may have stalled due to not having its settings tweaked to enable the Active X dialogue box to allow the iLok website to run. It's worth a try as it may save you having to dig out old laptops with XP in future.
  • 'Internet Options' >>> 'Advanced' tab, scroll quite far down and check the box which says 'Allow active content to run in files on my computer'.
  • Close down and re-open IE(x86).
  • Go to the iLok website. Plug your iLok in and then log in (all in the order I wrote it).
  • Look out for the dialogue box at the bottom of the browser asking if you want to allow iLok.com to run Active X or something or another along those lines. I can't recall exactly what it says. Click Allow/Yes to this.

It'd be interesting to know if this works for others or if I've just been lucky as this iLok browser issue is notorious with lots and lots of people scratching their heads. This may help many if tested out.
