The Maillard Reaction
We were interviewing Bobby Bowden for ESPN when it started happening and we grabbed a goofy miniature battery powered TV from the van and sat with him and watched until we couldn't take any more. It was a rare moment when football seemed less important than stuff that matters.

I called my wife and asked her to leave work and get back out to the forest.

A tragic day burned deeply into my memory.

I hope the many innocent lost souls and their helpless survivors find some peace.

best regards,
mike

I was on the phone with a co-worker who had just returned from a vacation to NY with the obligatory "I Love NY" t-shirt and pictures of him and his daughter on top of the WTC.  It hit him pretty hard.

Although pretty darn funny CRAIG B, that pic may have crossed the line with some.

On a side note. Did anyone beside me notice on the Wikipedia page that they only list famous people who were born (or died) on September 11th?

Funny?  Hmm...  Didn't look at it that way.

Also, it's my friend August's birthday today (the one who now plays guitar for Dennis DeYoung from Styx).

I was in, of all places, Saudi Arabia. I think its worth noting that the majority of the Saudis I was in contact with at the time were as shocked and horrified as the rest of us,

Uh Oh. Since I thought it was funny I may be the one who crossed the line.

I was working second shift at the time.  I'd had a restless sleep and woke up just in time to see the first tower fall.  Helluva wake-up call!

At the time, my brother used to live in NJ, right across the river from the World Trade Center.  If hadn't been at work, he would have been able to watch it from outside his condo.

A sad day indeed.
