I did a job in DP a few years ago - hated every minute of it but that's what they had installed in that studio. However, it was incredibly powerful! So it's definitely a good DAW. I'll probably check out the DEMO our of curiosity to see what's changed. But based on what you guys are saying here I don't expect to like it any more than I did back in the day.

But it sure looks nice and they seem to have changed the layout quite a bit.

Interesting.

DP8 has a great list of features/capabilities... but man it's currently a hot-mess.
Think X1 and X2 initial releases were bad???
Try the demo for DP.

Really want to add it to my toolbox... but it's time to say "uncle" (for now).

Open EZ Drummer... and drag a MIDI pattern into a project.  Instant crash every time.
Audio playback has gone dead after adding/tweaking a plugin.
Playback cursor has disappeared (as well as time display stopped moving) - audio continued to play
64Bit Phoenix Verb doesn't display properly.  32Bit version (bridged with jBridge) works ok.

Good to know. I've was hoping DP for windows would fill in the missing parts of Sonar. (scoring to video and notation- it's a drag to have to use workarounds) Maybe the Cakewalk folks will see this as an opportunity to improve Sonars functionality in this area... as always I can hope... can't I ....   ;)

I have read, can't remmeber where that the DP 8 demo is DP 8.0 and there have already been 2 bug patch releases to address some of the issues.  However the fixes may not be in the demo of DP8.

That doesn't really help people evaluate if the program is stable or if the issues people have using the demo are covered in the release with patches applied.

Sonar X1 has a similar thing happen with the Sonar X1 demo and 4 release patches.  Bought product was fine but the demo had issues.

just thought I would throw that out there.  if someone is truely interested in purchasing DP8 for windows that maybe checking the MOTU forums and patch releases may be helpful in making the decision to purchase or not.

me I'm gunna hold off til there is a DP8.2 or summthing.  New version on a new OS platform there are bound to be some real issues that have to be resolved.

but DP8 does have some features that look oh so tasty.

Agreed...

FWIW, The demo is the latest version (8.02).
I'm sure it won't stay in this state... but it needs some TLC.

Great to see it the more the competition the better for end users. We may get want we  keep requesting now from them all if any of them want to keep their customers.

My second impression of DP - Man, I really love Logic and I have many reasons to love it that much. lol

In fact, I have yet to find one think that will make me go: wow, that's cool! in DP.

Even just the way it draws itself onscreen when launched...

I've been wanting to try DP for like 10 years now... Let's just say it fell way below my anticipations.

Same here, I was like a kid on Christams morning when I saw the demo release! Found it to be the disappointment of the century. Honestly, the layout is primitive and bland (heck, even worse than Logic), and not user friendly at all. I was really looking forward to using its legendary video features, but couldn't get my head around it enough to delve into it that far. Plus, it couldn't "pass" many of my VST's hat work great in X2, Cubase and PT. Sorry MOTU!

I was disappointed with the demo also.  I have the Cubase 7 demo and that's the direction I'm going.  It's pretty amazing although it will take some work to change the way I think about some things.  Learning a new DAW is a big job.

Not to discourage you in any way...
Until I believe the 7.03 update, Cubase was having video (playback) related issues.
At v7.04, Cubase is pretty solid.

At 8.04. DP is starting to solidify.
It's so different, it's going to take a while to completely absorb...
My copy should be here tomorrow.
The video specific features sold me...
