I like you too Julien!!!

I'd just ignore someone I didn't like enough to offer some comment.

I enjoyed seeing the photos of your food on the grill and the happy faces of your family.

You may or may not know I am a 30 year plus vegetarian. :-) I also have a hand full of skeet contest awards from when I was a young 'un but I don't think I have ever mentioned that. Last time I shot skeet I was double dared by a U.S. Senator from Alabama who had found out I was a vegetarian at lunch. Let's just say I was treated with a bit more respect than they accord most vegetarians after I called "pull".

Glad you are living life to the fullest... I just don't enjoy the trophy pictures very much. :-(

all the best,
mike

Very cool Julian! It brought back memories of when I was 12. My mother used to take me hunting with my 410 for red winged black birds. She wrapped them in becan too. With fried okra and black eyed peas and salt water corn bread. Yummy

JBow.... very cool. I know you had fun. Yeah, hunting season is here again. I'm looking for some farm fields to do some bow hunting for White Tail with my crossbow. I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

Last December, my brother hosted a "family hunt" for Ring Neck , he enjoyed it immensely  and is planning to make it an annual event. Bring shotgun and shells and enjoy, is what he told me. Planned for some time in December.

Last year's results:

These were just 2 of the birds I shot that day.

between me, my brother, and my nephew, we got 12 birds total on the hunt.

I cooked them in a crockpot with veggies.... delicious!

The cost of the hunt is totally inconsequential as you pointed out above. It was worth every penny to watch those dogs work the field and when they found a bird..... they were amazing, then there is the fellowship and comradery between the people on the hunt..... bonding at it's best with shotguns and fresh air, and then there is getting and taking the shot. Seeing and hearing that bird flush, swinging the shotgun across it's flight path, instantly calculating the sight picture needed, squeezing the trigger, barely feeling the kick of the stock against your shoulder in the rush of excitement, and seeing a puff of feathers as the bird tumbles from the air...... nothing quite like it I'm sure you'd agree.

I remember when you posted those photos last time Herb.

I think I mustered up something nice to say on that occasion, but it seemed gut wrenching at the time to see the photos of the dead pheasants as trophies and it still does.

I get the comradery part... and the outdoors part... and the tradition part. So how about some photos of that great outdoors we all seem to enjoy or photos of people gathered together and smiling in friendship instead of the static displays of death trophies?

best regards,

I am glad it brought back good memories Bill, I hope you get to go again!

Herb, those are some nice lookin' birds. They released pheasant on this hunt but I didn't shoot one. They had them in cages on a truck and would drive around the field releasing them for people to shoot, I'd rather wait on a dove. Now... hunting wild pheasant, that would be cool. This same farm has a quail hunt soming up sometime but it is a long drive and there is a WMA planted with sunflower fields 20 minutes away. I am going to go over there some, even if I get a few shots I'll be happy. I think I am going to thin out the squirrel herd around here, I have certainly fattened them up. Squirrel season came in August 15. I used to eat them when I was a kid. Mom would fry them up for me. I wont be frying dove anymore, these with the bacon wrap were incredible... or maybe I just have a taste for adreneline... then again these dove were getting shot at, circling and landing to eat. They didn't seem particularly upset. I've never eaten a bad dove.

Do you guys bring in the pheasant? I've never hunted with a bird dog but I bet it is really fun. My inlaws used to hunt deer and rabbits with dogs. The dogs are really musical when they get on a trail. You could hear them hit maybe a quarter mile away, they would always run a rabbit through the yard sooner or later. I've never hunter rabbits and never killed a deer but I am going to do my best to get a nice doe this year. A buck would be nice but I think the doe is more tender. BTW, I know your pheasants are not trophies, they are food that you harvested. It is good to be able to harvest your own meat, IMO.

Do you know what a ringneck dove is? According to the GA regs there is no limit on them, no restrictions at all I think. They must be an invasive species. Not sure how to ID one in seconds when it is  flying 60MPH, lol.

Thanks guys...

Mike.... I posted that video as well..... I hope this works since I'm on my phone and not a computer.

I don't shoot living critters as trophies. .... they will be meals if I shoot them.

I respect that you are vegan. .... but most folks are not. Critters from the woods and fields are better eating than the factory farms mass produced animals.
