Chuckebaby, I appreciate the advice, and one of the reasons I'm trying to get everything onto Windows 7 64 is to play with some new tools, but I would like to make sure I can't solve this issue before thinking about reprogramming hundreds of songs. Most are unfinished, and the ones I have finished and released I still would like to retain their original sound so I can render out individual instruments if needed. It may be an old plugin, but I knew how to use it and make it sound great. Beagle, I have the very first MC. I started using the reverb FX in ACID way back and just kept adding it to songs. I do think they are VSTs...so there's hope then?

OK... here's how I see it... I agree, you should update what needs to be updated and move forward.  


At this time, if you have several hundred UNFINISHED songs..... seriously, are you really ever planning to finish more than one or two of them?  I would think that would be unlikely regardless of your intentions to do so, especially since you have not done it by now. 


So do the updates and if you decide to finish them, take the time to change the plugs. 


Side note: I have many songs that are for the most part finished. I listen to them from time to time and think that I really should go back and fix this or that in the song, and make that decision with the best of intentions..... but in reality, I know too, that it will not happen. I have new tunes to work on and write, and even finding time to work on them is hard to come by.  I have intention to rewrite with my co-writer,  a few lines in a country song that needs to go back to a publisher in Nashville after the fixes..... still trying to get the time to concentrate enough to write a few simple lines.  One of those things that needs to be done..... hopefully before the fall of the year.

Sorry, but the Cakewalk effects are most definitely DX.
Open your Plug-in manager. It lists the plug-ins by type, and you can see that all of the Cakewalk effects fall into the DX Audio Effects section.
Cakewalk was committed to the DX format for a long time, and only the last few generations include VST's.
You might want to consider upgrading to MC6 or X1 Essential. Both are very modestly priced as upgrades, and should support DX plug-ins in a contemporary environment.

FWIW, he contacted me via PM and I did some checking for him.  the FX he is talking about ARE DX FX as Bob states here.  however, I BELIEVE they have been updated in order to work on 64bit systems (just not in the  64bit version of sonar).  if you go to the e-store and "buy" the FREE downloads of the cakewalk FX and install them, they DO work on my system in MC5 (I don't have MC4 to try them on, but they should work there as well).
 
and I am running 64bit windows 7.  so if he purchases those free FX that should do what he wants it to do, although I'm not sure if it's going to be a 1 to 1 replacement without intervention because I can't test that scenerio.  MC4 MIGHT want him to replace the cakewalk FX with the cakewalk FX of the same name but of the updated versions.

Hey Beagle. I actually registered and went through the purchasing process like you suggested, but for the 2nd and 3rd FX packs it told me it had run out of serial numbers :\ So I'm not sure what to do now, besides maybe try to contact Cakewalk support.

yep.  that's what you'll have to do.

I got a serial number and installed the packs, but unfortunately it didn't work. It's weird because I have another plugin from Sound Forge 7.0 that works just fine in Windows 7, and that version is almost as old my Music Creator. Oh well, thanks for trying guys.

I wouldn't give up.... some of these things can be a bit tricky to get set up properly the first time. Once they are set up and working, they will work from that point forward every time.
