Hey!

Think I posted a similar question like 5 years ago or something. But does anyone know if there are any samplepacks that gives you the sounds of the good old Kurzweil K2000? I have tons of old songs laying around that I made for that synth. Sure I can use other synths, but I uh... kind of miss it. :-)

Sample playback instruments are playing recorded samples/waveforms.
As such, it's a copyright infringement to sample (record them) and sell them as your own... without obtaining permission (which would likely be expensive).

Here is an interesting thread.

Might find some useful info that might get you going in an interesting direction.
Sweetwater has a vast library of Free public domain K2000 patches and if you have a translator program you might could get them into a format Kontakt or another VSTi sampler could play.

Cool that might do the trick for some of the stuff but I was mainly looking for the default patches. Thanks!

Hi metz I am a bit of a Kurzweil fan (to say the least) This is a hard one. The only way you are going to get those original K2000 ROM sounds is perhaps to use the actual machine.

Firstly I have just got the latest model now the PC3K but I still have a K2000R too. Now the new one has got the the original Orchestral ROM and the Contemporary ROM expansions buried in its own newer updated ROM. Apparently the Kore 64 upgrade has got the original ROM sounds in it. Which means it may be possible to get those sounds into something like Chicken Systems Translator and convert over to something else.

You would need access to someone with a PC3K and has the Kore 64 expansion in to do this. I have never found the original ROM samples though as a separate thing either on CD or in any form. Once the original ROM samples come out that way then it will be possible to do what you want to do. I don't think Kurzweil are going to bother with the original ROM sounds so much. The reason is that there new ROM is amazing and WAY better.

Don't forget though it does not stop with the original samples either. There is the VAST processing and the internal effects which also have a big impact on the sound. You wont get that when you finally get them into a different format.

All the more reason why one should turn any midi tracks that are sequencing external synths into audio right at the time of the song production in case this very thing happens and you cannot play a synth part as you no longer have the instrument any more.

BTW the new Kurzweil sounds a lot better than a K2000. I never thought it possible but it is. It sounds ridiculous now!!

If you are really stuck you are welcome to send me any midi tracks and I will print the audio for them for you no problems. Its one reason I kept the K2000R to be able to do just that. Plus it still not a bad baby to have lying around!

I actually do have an old K2000. But it's buried in the basement and was thinking of selling it of. I just hoped there was a nice VST that emulated the K2000 that I could have slapped on the tracks ;-)

Kurzweil makes FANTASTIC products! I really would like to have those sounds again. But my current living situation dont give me space for any large keyboards. I'm really cramped on space.

(pardon my poor english)

I have a Kurzweil K2500XS and a Roland JV-1000 that aren't getting as much use as they used to. I use the Kurzweil as my keyboard controller for my softsynths and use the Vintage Synth expansion board in the Roland once in a while. I've been thinking about retiring the Roland and Kurzweil and replacing them with a Kurzweil PC3K. In order to keep those Kurzweil and Roland programs around I'll probably wind up getting this- http://www.samplerobot.com/ and capturing each instrument completely to use as Kontakt instruments. I'd recommend hooking up your K2000, using Samplerobot to capture everything, and then put the Kurzweil back in storage. Bill

Hey guys!

Hehe, I actually went down the cellar and connected my trusty old K2000 again just to see if it even worked and to take a couple of pictures of it that I could use when placing my ad for selling it.

BUT.... I started playing it... Damn, I enjoyed it so much that I dont know if I can sell it anymore. I probably wont get many bucks anyway. I love the feel of the keys. I have a PCR-800 from Roland nowadays that I use with softsynths. But man... this is something else. I love it!

Cheers!
