Message for Steve,

Can't afford to.

I'm saving up for a new microphone.

True story.

Are you sure you haven't got your eye on THIS Mike

That sure looks like a pretty piece of flame maple,

but the backing mahogany wood has a big knot in it, someone misplaced the pickup covers, and the tuner knobs aren't disintegrating as the original ones would be.

Luckily for me, when the Ford 150 ran me over it rendered me incapable of slinging a real Les Paul over my shoulder so I don't even fantasize about those guitars.

I know it's a much sought after instrument and all that, but how could it possibly be worth that much?

I realise it's worth what ever someone's willing to pay for it, but over a quarter of a million dollars seems a bit steep. I could almost understand it if it had belonged to someone 'famous' and you could actually hear the thing on their albums.

I agree. All I see is a used guitar.

I imagine these guitars are bought and sold as *investments* and no one wants to sell at a loss so the price just keeps inching upwards.

I think my 1997 Hamer Artist

that I bought at a used guitar price at what I imagine will be the bottom of it's *value* covers most of the sonic territory that the late 50's Les Paul's popularized.

I think it's a lot harder to find an good affordable microphone than a great affordable guitar these days.

best regards,
mike

Pickup covers?  Those aren't even the stock pickups.

I'd say that guitar is worth maybe $7k max.

Personally, I doubt I'd pay $2,750 for it, let alone 100 times that!

I didn't read the ad copy and just realize that it came with pickup covers from the factory.

What has clued you in to the pickups not seeming original?

As I recall, when guys started pulling the covers off in the early 70's they discovered the zebra color scheme was very common... I imagine that is why the Hamer I own mimics that look as a concession to fashion.

I'd rather have the Hamer.
