Question for you Iris users: have you found it to be really useful, or just a novelty? Better yet, do you have any songs posted that feature Iris?
When I listen to the demos, I hear interesting and unusual sounds but I can't imagine how I'd apply them. Even at the sale price it seems like too much money for something I'd rarely use. (The same could be said about half the Kontakt libraries I've bought!)
more a sound design tool (I guess most will use it like that, due to the CPU hit) .. then chucking that sound into kontakt = leaves cpu room for lush and diva ;)
it depends on you really and the music you make.. AND if you can spend the time changing up a sound to make it into something new. I grew up with sampling something, faffing about with it in the sampler / fx.. bouncing it out to DAT then back into the sampler fx'd.. but that's reflected in the music, that got me into making it. So to me, that aspect is second nature to try to have something not so "default" that may make the difference.
I would like the functionality to import a pattern / design instead of drawing freehand.. which they haven't implemented.
I haven't had much time to work on music of late.. but it's definitely something I would moreso use for a day or 3 of "prep work" for your own sounds, which is days that you don't feel creative to work on an actual tune is a waste. Or attacking something already done and you think could add something to a weak element (beside the usual fx)
it's not cheap, due to being a US product for the rest of us (pardon the pun) but the libs are good for it, thats part of it.. the libs think or hhmm like the raw materials, like say IR's etc. so just the vst itself is only part of it.
