disgusting display and to think these are the people out children are force fed to admire

But do the children, or even the adults admire these folk?  MTV is all but irrelevent.   10 million views worldwide..   Its more like a freakshow carnival, than a music event.   I can't imagine that these folk are admired and idolized in the way that Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Metallica (pre - hair cut) were...

Video may have killed the radio star, but a complete lack of morals, values and ethics killed the video wanna-be's.

Oh yeah, and a lack of actual talent.

Gee, was I the only one not offended? She can only play a Disney-channel character for so long before it gets creepy. It makes perfect sense to try and claim a slice of Lady Gaga's lucrative market. And it's not like wiggling your butt for the camera is some shocking new innovation. It's been a staple of the pop music landscape since ancient times when Cher and Madonna were corrupting little girls' minds and feeding teenage boys' fantasies.

Not a fan, but here's how I look at it. The rehabs are littered with the stories of child stars who couldn't make the transition to adult stardom. She and her advisers realize this, and are being proactive. Seems like a successful strategy so far. People are talking about her performance world wide. Even here. It's no longer about sheer talent. It's about buzz! Madonna perfected the model, and Cyrus is just taking over the reins. If anyone is stupid enough to let a Disney product or any other entertainer be an influence on the character of their child, their gonna get just what they deserve.

Didn't know until this thread that Miley had anything to do with Disney.  It does give the comments that she's f'in Goofy a whole new twist though...

I am not offended, surprised, disgusted, appalled, or scandalized, and I agree that this performance was pretty derivative. On an aesthetic point, I would suggest that if one is lucky enough to have a tongue that large and mobile, one should probably keep a bit more of it within the oral cavity on most occasions. But like the foam finger etc. I assume that there is an intended parody of lasciviousness in the extra-oral  excursion. Clowning about sexuality is probably less an homage to Cher, Madonna etc. than  a burlesque of that genre, but many of the usual suspects clearly missed the joke. When Ms. Cyrus is ready, I expect she will be able to seriously and effectively integrate sensuality into her act if that is her intent.

I haven't bothered to watch the video.  It personally wouldn't have offended me--but I don't think it should be on a show with kids in the audience.  I did see the photo of Will Smith and family looking up at her in complete shock.  Priceless.

They actually weren't watching Miley when that photo was snapped; they were watching Gaga. And it just looked like they were shocked. If you watch the video the photo was captured from, his wife was scratching her nose and his daughter was sort of bopping to Gaga. The photo made it look like something it wasn't.
