Gee, was I the only one not offended? She can only play a Disney-channel character for so long before it gets creepy. It makes perfect sense to try and claim a slice of Lady Gaga's lucrative market. And it's not like wiggling your butt for the camera is some shocking new innovation. It's been a staple of the pop music landscape since ancient times when Cher and Madonna were corrupting little girls' minds and feeding teenage boys' fantasies.
I am not offended, surprised, disgusted, appalled, or scandalized, and I agree that this performance was pretty derivative. On an aesthetic point, I would suggest that if one is lucky enough to have a tongue that large and mobile, one should probably keep a bit more of it within the oral cavity on most occasions. But like the foam finger etc. I assume that there is an intended parody of lasciviousness in the extra-oral excursion. Clowning about sexuality is probably less an homage to Cher, Madonna etc. than a burlesque of that genre, but many of the usual suspects clearly missed the joke. When Ms. Cyrus is ready, I expect she will be able to seriously and effectively integrate sensuality into her act if that is her intent.
