No this isn't spam. Anyone successfully done it?

I think the general term turned me off initially.  I wanted to hotspot my iphone . They( my carrier) charge another fee to use the data you already payed for as data to hotspot or tether your phone.  I have IOS 6.1.3 and chip A4. It should be painless.

I backed up my data to iTunes last night. We'll see. If you own iphone 5 and chip A5 with 6.1.3 you will need to wait until they write a program for iOS 7.

Do you need to use a Thin Lizzy for the operation?

No- a program called RedsnOw. It didn't go so well. I tried three different times and every time I got back a message (missingkeys.plist) apparently something in my phone doesn't play well with it. I'm not finished yet. I can't see paying extra money monthly to the man for data I already bought to have the privilege to use it for a personal hot spot. I may need to wait until IOS 7 comes out and they crack it.

I have AT&T and am grandfathered into an unlimited data plan. I connect to my home wifi, when at home so I don't get near the 5G area where people are saying they are being throttled even thought they have the unlimited data plan. If they ever throttle me I will go straight to the FCC, it is a breach of original contract.
Of course they will not let me use the "personal hotspot" unless I switch to a mobile share plan or a 50 dollar 5G plan. I will be LEAVING AT&T in a little over two years after a couple of decades. I do not like this ##$% at all.

I don't know about this stuff but are you saying that if I can jailbreak my iPhone that I will be able to enable my "personal hotspot" and AT&T wont know? I also could get a mobile hotspot device from another carrier, whoever is cheapest.
I don't like it when a business tries to screw me.

Yes if you are successful in jail breaking your phone you can get an app that will allow your phone to be a hotspot device using the plan you already have.

I think it would be great to use my laptop and iPad anywhere with the data I have now. I already have wifi at home and at work so this is mainly a mobile solution I wanted. I am hoping they come out with an untethered jailbreak for iOS7.I have 6.1.3 and it's a tethered solution.Tethered is bad if you need to reboot your phone away from a computer.

AT&T won't know. If you run into a problem you simply restore the phone from iTunes.Even if they knew it isn't against the law.
