back in 1967 or '68. I found this article from the Red Springs Citizen newspaper while cleaning out my desk.

Here's the hat he was wearing.

The Maillard Reaction
Wow.

Guns don't shoot people, people that like guns shoot people.

He's probably lucky it was a 40 grain bullet rather than a 4600 grain potato falling at 9m/sec²

I'm glad to read that he survived the incident.

best regards,
mike

I'm just glad that this was a current event topic!

I'm glad he wasn't seriously injured.  I wonder why you didn't hear about until now.

We knew about it, Old. We got the phone call late at night when we were living in Germany (I was 10 or so). Mom was frantic; wanted to hop on a plane right then. Grandma said he was fine, just stitches, so Mom calmed down.
I've had the hat since we cleaned out and sold their house after they had both passed. Finding the newspaper clipping brought it back.

Middleman
My grandfather was shot in the chest by a priest who was out hunting quail in 1910. He survived and went on to live to the ripe old age of 76. He passed in 1976. He fought in WWI had 3 children, one of which fought in WWII. He worked in one of the first car tire factories and later became a house painter and carpenter. He relayed stories about the old west having been raised in Western Kansas. Lots of cowboy and Indian tales which have become family lore.
