So, I have run into a little issue with Cakewalk Music Creator 6 and trying to use ASIO.

First off, my sound card is the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi (not HD).  Per Creative, to activate the ASIO drivers, I had to change the Creative Control panel to "Audio Creation Mode" which I have done.

I started a project using EWQL sound samples that were channeled through MIDI tracks and imported a .mov video file to compose to.  The meters all showed that the tracks were active but I heard no audio.  After checking everything in the KISS method (Keep It Simple Stupid) I found that everything was active, on and correct.

Secondary Note:
(One thing I am confused about is that when selecting ASIO it shows ASIO4ALL ... which I don't understand.  Isn't ASIO4ALL a generic "driver" to simulate ASIO?  Is this something that is due to my Audio Card or something that is based off of Music Creator?)

Anyway, in the ASIO4ALL control preferences, found on the bottom right of the desktop (near the clock), It stated that the main output was not available because of either two things: 1. The GS Wavetable is active or 2. Another program is interrupting it.

Well, I had ensured that the GS Wavetable Synth was deactivated but that still didn't help.  Finally, I found that after removing the video file, ASIO was now working.

Any ideas on how I may be able to keep the video file within the project without loosing ASIO?

System Specs:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor, 3200MHx, 6 Core
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5800
RAM: 8 GB

... Okay ... I did NOT follow the KISS rules ... LOL

Turns out I somehow installed ASIO4ALL, which probably was from some other download that installed it.

So never mind ... everything works great now that I removed that ASIO4ALL.  Creative ASIO kicked in after it was gone.

Thanks!

Soundblasters are now using ASIO? and working?

Some of them, Herb.
As I understand it, Creative borrowed a lot of technology from the E-MU side for many of the newer cards.

Creative ASIO is fairly robust, but as the OP noted, ASIO4All will derail it in a heartbeat.

I might have to stop talking down about SB cards.....

yes, Bob's correct - not the older ones but the ones built within probably the last 5 years or so?

they're still "gaming cards" but they're better than they used to be for recording.

Thank you!

LOL, I feel like an idiot as to not realizing that I had ASIO4ALL installed at some point, although I really don't remember installing it.  Everything is working perfectly now.  Although, I do have a question ...

Is there a way to lower the tempo for live recording only without actually changing the tempo for playback as well?

I'm not quite sure I understand the question.
Tempo will affect your metronome, MIDI tracks, and groove clips.
It has no effect on recorded audio tracks.
Can you elaborate on what you are wanting to do?

Yes, sorry.

What I mean to say is, when you press the "record" button to record into a MIDI track, the metronome will sound at whatever tempo the piece is set at.  What I am looking for, is to have the metronome tempo set lower only when I am recording, not during playback.  This way, if I am trying to enter a rather quick paced part in the piece,  and want a quick tempo, I am able to actually play the piece while recording since I am not skilled enough to play such quick paced music at fast tempos.

I remember being able to do such actions in past sequencing programs, but I have yet to find a way to do this in Music Creator 6.  The only way I have been doing it lately, is to set the tempo to a lower setting, do the recording, and then change the tempo back to the original beat.  While not REALLY that big of a deal, I was just curious if there was a way to do this.

Thanks!
