Zebralette (free) is a single oscillator synth but it is a very complex and powerful oscillator and capable of way more than many standard oscillators.

It is very fat and can be layered so there is a single mode but also dual, quad and eleven! Yes 11 oscillators on one note in that mode and they can be detuned nicely and the width of all those oscillators place nicely right across the stereo image too. Fun and very fat. Still little CPU use even in this eleven mode. I have got ERS Roland Dimension D and when you start adding this to some very wide and beautiful pads the sound can become incredibly lush and amazing. (Dimension D is a secret weapon!)

Dark Zebra is interesting too because Hans Zimmer has modified Zebra to include various aspects of Diva, filters and the like which adds another dimension. The Dark Zebra sound library looks interesting too. I could totally imagine Diva as being a total one stop shop for analog synths sounnds and much more. Couple that up with something like Alchemy and you have got a killer instrument line up then with just two synths. I cannot talk, I counted up all my VST synths and I have got 70 now! How many do you need. There are only a handful that one often comes back to and Alchemy is one of those for me but I can see Zebra fitting in there as well.

I love the u-he stuff...

I've had the Zebra CM edition for a long time now so I've aquired several free sound packs for it....it is crazy good.....

I have wanted to buy Zebra  and /or Zebra 2 (as well as Dark Zebra) for a few years now....I have the demo version and keep playing it.....One day I will break down and buy them both....(you have to have Zebra 2 before you can get the Dark Zebra) but it sounds soo good!

And Urs really never puts them on sale either....bummer but still.....killer

I've been so damn busy (on the work front, not music) and last night was the first time I've been able to have a go at Zebralette. What I normally do, when I get a new synth, is create a project that only contains instances of the one synth. And then I play with all the different sound types, pads, plucks, percs, that sort of thing, and see what I, and it can come up with.

Now, I don't know whether it was me being on a roll last night, or that this is just a great synth (I suspect the latter) but I had a load of fun with this. A most inspiring session for sure.

I need to hit the manual some, because I'm not understanding the wave morphing thing just yet. But even so, I was really impressed by the sounds and the presets provided.

One really great thing about this VST, for me, is the interface and the fact that you can resize the window to suit you. A great idea that, and only a couple of other synths I have can do that, and still not to the extent that this u-he offering. Are all of the u-he interfaces capable of that?

Not sure if all the u-he plugs will resize.

I'm also new to this site & products, but my first impressions were quite good as well.

I tried both the Zebralette and the full version demo Zebra 2.

There seems to be different sounds available in each.

Does anyone know if this is the case?
Because I like some of the sounds in both, but may not be able to purchase the full version.

There is fairly significant difference between Zebralette and Zebra2. Zebralette is just one of the oscillators from Zebra2 and yet it is so powerful. Zebra2 has 4 of those same oscillators for starters so yes some pretty serious sounds can be made with Zebra2

In my post #11 above I have mentioned that you can layer Zebralette oscillators onto themselves. Although when you do that yes they are all the same sound but they can be detuned and panned making it one very fat sounding oscillator if you need it to be. So a Zebralette patch may start out in single or dual mode but you can quickly put it onto Quad or eleven mode for a much fatter result.

Cool Jeff. Good info.

So do you know if they start with the same sound banks though?
