I recently upgraded from K4 to K5 for $99 on the NI website. I wonder why it is $249 now?

Did you have to re-install the entire library and leave the old K4 library for older projects?

I did not. I had the Kontakt 5 player installed so I went into Service Center and used the new Kontakt 5 S/N to upgrade the player to the full version.

Kontakt 5 seems to work fine with the Kontakt 4 library. This saved me time and SSD space plus, I still have Kontakt 4 intact for older projects.

The only thing that puzzles me is why they won't just sell you a new S/N instead of wanting to ship the entire package... That alone would have saved me a week waiting for the package to arrive.

As a matter of fact it did work out well after all.


With just a little more digging around, I found a 'no longer needed' version of Kontakt 4 for $120 on KVR - including shipping & a copy of the de-registration confirmation from NI.

Doubt I could find it any cheaper than that!

Just got the tracking number sent to me today.

be warned most kontakt libraries are being updated to support version 5+ so many will not work in 4.
