I remember how Cakewalk used to refuse to give us ASIO and VST(i) on the basis that there were Steinberg's standards and that they preferred to work on open standards, and that "much better solutions" were worked on.

Open standards - so much noise was made around that....

And so they came up w/ DXi, and implemented that WDM engine. And for a while it almost look as if they got their point across. Some serious companies like NI even started developing DXi's.

But actual support for DXi in host didn't take off. I think Fruity Loop added it for a while, on top of standard VSTi. Logic didn't - even if it supported virtually every possible standard on the planet. And Steinberg soon pulled the plug on Direct X altogether.

Fast forward to X1 and it's kind of ironic to consider that not only Cakewalk eventually adopted both VST and ASIO but pushed things one step further w/ the creation of the PC, the ultimate in terms of proprietary format.

It took Avid a lot of effort to get developers to port their plug-ins to AAX. And we're talking about the industry standard DAW, used in the vast majority of pro recording studios out there. Even long time partners Waves stood them up for the longest time.

W/ that in mind, it doesn't surprise me that developers don't care for PC. Except for Softube. But that's what they do - develop variations of their plugs for others like NI, Presonus, Avid and Cakewalk.
