Well, they're late in the game.

Though, all things considered, and as ridiculous as it is, most commercial studios  - and the industry itself, by ricochet - are late. And a standard isn't really a standard unless it's universally adopted.

Incidentally, of all the commercial and/or big private studio owners I know, I don't think anyone is even running Pro Tools 10. I was talking to one of those guys just last week and he was telling me that he was sticking w/ 9 for a while.

So, even if it seems silly that PT only just now support 64 bit, the truth is that a lot of professional users couldn't care less for it.

Even the absence of offline bounce doesn't seem to bother those guys al that much. That's just the way it works for them. I'm sure they'll appreciate it and wonder how they lived w/o it for so long, but none of them seem to worry about it that much.

It's usually us, the smaller one-man operated project/home studios that need to squeeze as much as we can out of our gear.

The vast majority of the Pro Studios are running PT HD...and there's quite a difference...

If they had to work with JUST Pro Tools..they probably wouldn't even bother...

But HD is really an entirely different animal....and that's why it really doesn't affect
them.

But, soon, they'll all be PRAISING the GLORY of Pro Tools now that IT, the Industry Standard
IS 64 bit...and how it beats the pants off of everything else out there..blah blah blah...

Just as the X2 Fanbois will APPLAUD X2, the S1 fanboi's will APPLAUD S1, etc...etc...

The only way you can truly "see the forest for the tree's" is if you maintain some
"objectivity" and, alas, with people, that's virtually impossible...

Yup, that's what I've always said. The supposedly unimportant unimplemented feature of today is always the highlight of the next update.

I use Logic - it doesn't support 32-bit FP audio files. And if you ask me, it makes NO effin difference. But I'm sure that the inclusion of it will be a selling point for the next version.

As for PT, from the perspective of a mix engineer/producer, I understand why 64-bit is/was relatively unimportant.

From the perspective of someone doing everything ITB and relying on virtual instruments for most things and such, it's a great news. But then again, I'm not fully sure why those people would even pick up PT to begin w/, considering that it's not where PT really shines.

I mean, if I have to use PT that way, there are other things which will bug me way before I even think about the advantages of 64 bits.

But then again, I guess that there are lots of grey areas and what works for one person would be a nightmare for another.

What puzzles me is the new AAE audio engine. I'm hoping that they've improved in that area. IMHO, it could hardly be worst than the old DAE. I rarely use PT these days, but this would be a selling factor if I were to upgrade.
