Just found this and have not investigated it fully.... so I reserve my judgement on it for now...

http://www.whydontyoutrythis.com/2013/08/440hz-music-conspiracy-to-detune-good-vibrations-from-natural-432hz.html

Supposedly the A-432 is a more "natural" frequency and should be used..... it supposedly lines up a bit more accurately with the universe.

Opinions?

I have a guest who has me reference A at 444hz for his work and he uses the same reasoning.

I give him what he asks for and I like the way he sings. He likes the way I like the way he sings.

I'm happy to do it.

But it did sort of mess up all my *uber secret recipe* EQ presets. ;-)

There is no such thing as a "natural" frequency in the sense that they talk about. That idea is complete pseudoscientific nonsense that someone pulled out of you-know-where.

And in the intellectually horrific world pf pseudoscience, the conspiracy angle is used as a preemptive, ad hominem strike against the credibility of critics who actually know things. It allows one to just dismiss any questions that one is unable to answer regarding factual errors, lack of evidence and the absence of any understanding of physics or even logic.

Having said that, sometimes different tuning standards are used, and one might like A being tuned to something other than 440Hz sometimes.

The Maillard Reaction
I had a friend who was into Tibetan singing bowls.

He went on and on about how his 3 bowls had been specially selected by a Tibetan monk out of a pile of hundreds because they exhibited a special magical connection.

I made recordings of them and opened up a spectral analyzer. It was easy to show him his 3 bowls made a sweet Triad out of an A=440hz referenced "C", "E", and "G".

It was pretty obvious to him that I was part of the conspiracy. :-)

I think he still enjoys thinking it's magic.

I'm glad he got some bowls that sound good together.

best regards,
mike

I reckon I'll keep using A-440 because I'm just too lazy to change it.

That's my metaphysical reasoning.

IT'S ALWAYS 415.3 Hz FOR ME.

Isn't it nice to work alone.
The way things worked in my past it would be the guy that couldn't tune his guitar
to save the world that would bring this topic up.

What IS this "tuning" concept I keep hearing so much about anyway?

Something to do with even temperament across all keys works best with 440 base.

Scale tuning then the base shifts with the key

Most keyboards are tuned to 440.

432Hz - nah, forget that pseudo-science woo bullsh_t - the important thing is that you align your speakers and instruments with the nearest flux vortex according to the scientific principles of feng shui.
