For those interested in the Microkeys61, be aware that there is no sustain pedal input.

I really think you might like this

*BUT* you sacrifice the mod wheel, from the looks of that.. if you change it.

synkrotron , on korgs site it was £136.. *download* not an actual real box ..
with keyboard I got it from "guitar guitar".. £124 all in next day.. dv failed to price match AND not next day, they wanted £139!!! they might be losing my custom if they carry this up.. I'm very impressed with the ease of how quick the other shop dealt with it... BUT I'm not a fan of the courier they use

so got that + the keyboard.. some AAS sessions synths

it turned up in a fender guitar outer box, amusing to me as I don't play but the box was 3-4 times the korg's size!!

+ points
*good free software
*keyboard feels so so.
*install of drivers in win 7 was painless

- points
*the authorisation of the s/ware isn't as good as it should be
*usb cable supplied is way too short
*charging so much for a digital download is a joke. tbh I found it a bit wasteful buying another keyboard

Hi Fog,

I've not bothered with the keyboard mainly because I wanted the software straight away and therefore couldn't be bothered waiting for a parcel arrived, and I've got a keyboard controller anyway :)

I managed to have a bit of a play last night after downloading and licensing everything, which took a while. Great thing about this stuff is that it's really retro in terms of tweaking and controls and I like that, and of course, the sound is great too, so I am glad I have invested in the bundle. The only thing I couldn't get my head around properly is MDE-X, but I won't be giving up on it just yet...

MDX-E is an audio plug in - basically an effects package to use separately from the various synths - I have this but don't think I've ever used it!!

so you couldn't wait 1 day ( the text you 40 minutes ahead to say they are arriving), pay less AND get a free keyboard that's handy to lug around or give to someone. What it is to be loaded haha

and the bonus... a UK based company gets the business / money... which is what people should think about when they moan their local pro audio shop is gonna shut.

A very good point, but what can I say? Pretty much all of my studio software is purchased off the web. Only my hardware has been purchased from UK shops. My local music store, Dawson's, has had my support for many years, since 1981 when I bought my first synth. If I could have bought this bundle from Dawson's I would have, but like most music stores, they do not sell much software.

I've just got my Microkey61 from my local store today. Have not connect it yet.. just by playing around with the mini keys - surprisingly is quite playable.

Regarding the 'no sustain pedal' I've tested it with 2 keyboards earlier, connected to my 4x4 M-audio midi interface. I'm able to play on keyboard 1, while using pedal from keyboard 2, as long as I'm recording with midi omni.

@Fog :

So.. no modification is necessary :) Thanks for the suggestion.

I know it's not needed if you are using omni..
but if that's the only keyboard you have.. although I guess it's just switch able via the s/ware to either do the mod.. or the pedal

I have been using the M1 and Wavestation since the old dongle days and I have upgraded them every time and upgrade was available. Unfortunately there are no stand alone versions in the 64 bit Win upgrade. I hope they come out with a stand alone patch soon.

Is this an automated response? Standalone patch?

What on earth for, can you give any reason that a specific 64 bit standalone is required?

I get why it's an issue to upgrade the dll's to run natively on a 64 bit DAW but fail to grasp why a specific 64 bit standalone is required.

If it really bothers you that it's not got any magic 64 bittyness going down (whatever you imagine that to be) then run the 64 bit dll in a 64 bit version of Savihost, job done.

http://www.hermannseib.com/english/savihost.htm

You'll then be able to tell your friends about all the obvious improvements you are imagining from running the 64bit version as a standalone and they are bound to be impressed...

A 64 bit standalone of Kontakt where you could be hauling 32Gb of 24 bit samples, yes, a Korg legacy synth that's running 8 mb of wavetables with a depth of 12-16 bit if that then, nope.  Also IIRC although it doesn't have any bearing on the compiled executable the internal processing of the Legacy series is done internally at 32bit float.  It means that it's likely that given the amount of effects processing going on in the digital synths at least the output quality is better than the originals but there is no benefit to be had in using a 64 bit executable as a stand-alone.

Incidentally, since this was bumped and someone mentioned re-authorisation issues...

I've had to re-authorized two Korg plugs today (M1 and Polysix, which were authorized like a week apart).

Nothing has changed on my MacBook configuration wise, and nothing new besides a security patch I've installed this morning. But that's in no way major, I don't think I should have to re-authorise software for such a thing...

Odd.

I'll keep an eye on it.

I really hoped they got this one sorted. I am not at home so I have not tried the 64 bit version on my new Win8 DAW yet but it was real annoyance on the old Vista DAW.  If it happens on both PC and Mac it shows there is something very flaky in the authorization that needs to be sorted out.
