For all serious users who keep their DAWs of the internet this is an harassment. This experience and all the iToys releases really make me wonder whether their software is still intended for high quality applications or if it's just trash ... 

I'm with you on IK letting us down etc... but I think the day of not having a DAW on the internet is pretty much over.  I'm a professional user and have always had my DAW on the internet.  Licensing and down loading is a nightmare without it and it gets more so every day.  With proper precautions you will be fine.   If my system was totally wiped out I'd be back up and running in 30 minutes from my disk image and data backups which are stored on drives that are only power on when needed. I really think that keeping a DAW off the internet is a lost battle.

I've always had my DAW on the internet...I have the option when I'm recording to TURN MY CONNECTION OFF...
so WHY wouldn't you?  With a good firewall and AV program there should be no worries...and just turn them 
OFF when tracking, etc....pretty straight forward IMHO...but that's just me.

Out of the 2 that I do use, Ampeg and CSR, only one has made it to 64 bit.

I'm pretty much done with them too.
If Ampeg goes 64 bit I'll take it but that's as far as I go with them.

They should know that there's WAY too much competition out there to be playing this game.

I'm a Waves guy now. They're stable, up to date, high quality and not going anywhere anytime soon.
Not to mention they're not wasting resources on iCrap.

They are both 64bit now. With Ampeg you have to use it Amplitube 3. All your Ampeg models will be there and CSR is 64bit as well.

Even if ST3 ever happens, I doubt I'll upgrade.

As a sampler, it's useless, and even if it was better, there's no way it could beat the EXS-24/Logic combo for me. And if I weren't using Logic, I can still think of a bunch of options before I even consider it for sampling.


As a library player, there's virtually no 3rd party libraries available for it. Kontakt is still king of the hill. I seriously doubt that this is likely to change. Unless iPhones and iPads become the new studio standard - then maybe they'd have the edge...


So at best, I imagine it will be kind of like those UVI instruments - which have the benefit of being able to load in Mach 5, a reputedly great sampler which couldn't quite replace Kontakt.

I am now officially done with IK. Just going to burn up some credits I have in CS and I'm out.
One more complaint. WTH good are Jam Points?
Every time I tried to use them it said 'that purchase is not available for Jam Point use.'

iToo have done away with iKM (except ARC) ... iKM support is nonexistent, in my repeated experience.

+1 on Waves getting their 64bit and support up-to-date.

I'm pretty much over it with iK too.
 
I bought all their SampleXXXs in a group buy, which was a good deal at the time.
 
Now, I have ARC, CSR, and TRacks Deluxe, and that's about all I ever use. Mostly ARC, and not much else :-)
 
Occasionally I might use something from one of the SampleXXX or Miroslav to layer in something, but since X2 I haven't even installed the 32bit version ... so at this stage it's no more IK SampleXXX for me.
 
I think the slowness of iK to come to the party, means they've pretty much missed it.
 
My attention is all over the vast array of superior products and sample libs, of which there's plenty.
I never actually liked using the iK SampleXXX stuff because of the UI, it's not kind to my ailing eyesight !.
 
 
I don't even bother checking the IK site anymore.
 
It's a shame when a company with such great opportunities seems to just blunder along and leave their customers to find better alternatives.

In fairess to IK T-Racks and Amplitube continue to be developed and expanded and have all been updated recently including 64 bit. The custom shop I am not so keen on, I would just as soon go to a website and but I can live with it.

It makes you wonder where they will go with ST3. It needs to do something radical or be cheap to be a success look at the competition (for Windows)
 

• Kontakt is king of the hill for sure and because of the third party content and the scripting.
• Mach 5 is probably no 2 in terms of capabilities and they are getting an increasing number of developers on board. This is the one I see giving NI a run for their money.
• Independence still has IMHO the best factory library but lacks new and third party content. Now its been acquired by Magix it will be interesting to see if they develop it further. They have already issued one minor update. It needs scripting and some third party content to move on.
• Alchemy is more synth orientated but certainly can be considered as competition.
• Dimension Pro occupies a similar space in the market to Sampletank, but it is more modern and new content is still being released. The lack of multi timbrel operation is not such a big deal these days as you can insert several instances.
• TX16W provides a free / lowcost option for those who want a sampler to do sampling but are not to worried about content.

So where do Ik go? A fully featured sampler with scripting and go up against Kontakt and Mach 5, remain in the player territory or move into synth and sample manipulation like Alchemy?

Agreed about IK support being non-existent. You can't even post anything on their user forum because of their Gestapo attitude toward user forums. Why even have one if you can't converse with other users? You have to give Cakewalk a LOT of credit where this is concerned. They let all the dissent with their product happen and let the user base here help them.

Case and point. A week or so ago I had an issue with ARC 2. It made a noise like the radio/tv being out of tune (white noise). I got the answer here withing an hour. If I had waited for IK support, I would STILL be waiting. It turns out either I did not authorize it or it un-authorized itself.

I'm starting to realize that I won't be able to keep my DAW of the net much longer, but I keep holding on for a bit - personal paranoia I reckon ...
 
Anyway, may I ask what you are using as a backup system to be able to fix / rebuild in 30 minutes. I do frequent incremental backups using Acronis, but fear that it might be much longer in case I have to sort out something serious ...
