"Do people really post that it works fine for them when it doesn't or they don't even know?"

Yes, absolutely; "John" did it to me half a dozen times in his first few years here at the forum.

The same folks routinely recommend links that they think are pertinent but when you read the stuff at the links it becomes obvious the person who recommended it has never read the content and so they don't know that their suggestion doesn't apply.

I got sick of cajoling people who claimed to not see anything to actually look in the right place... and I figured out that it's not my responsibility to explain the issue to people who just show up to argue rather than learn.

It must be satisfying to be able to control your take on reality.

best regards,
mike

Mike, that doesn't that surprise me in the least, that's just the sort of thing I'd expect from some of the fanboys upstairs.

Long term, the sycophants and lickspittles do more harm than good, both to the community and the company, in my humble opinion.

I've never understood why someone would even bother replying with an "it's working fine here" post. Unless, of course, they qualify that statement with a solution relevant to the problem (e.g. "it's working fine now but I had to do so-and-so... why don't you try it").

I have been guilty of making some of those " It's working fine for me" comments. I figure if they see that computer a,b and c are working ok  with the same keystrokes then  this leads to a probable conclusion that it might be a hardware or software configuration issue.

Since most issues from newbs seem to come from configuration or hardware I don't generally fault the software until those other things are eliminated. OTOH if computers a,b and c are all having the same issue then we can be pretty certain someone needs to file a report with Cakewalk on what's happening.

I know you guys have had real issues. If it were me and it wasn't hardware or software configuration then I would do the same thing and try to find a solution/work around. If I simply couldn't get the product to do what I needed it to do I would look for another product that did. I think in saying " it's working fine for me" we are saying that it can work correctly. We may not know why but we know it works for us.

H Starise,

Here's an example:

It took about a year of pestering to get people to zoom in and figure out that a tiny little bit of every loop they recorded with ASIO was being thrown away. A little gap appeared each and every time.

I kept asking people if they would zoom in and actually look before they reported that it didn't happen on their system.

I was genuinely surprised at how many people lied and said they did and said everything was fine.

Then after a lot of back and forth some finally zoomed in, took a look and said "oh... that?".

If some one doesn't have the discipline to consider a question at face value then they shouldn't presume that they may offer vapid reassurances.

It's creepy.

all the best,
mike

It's working fine here.

Hope that helps.

I'm not sure what "It" is, but I just got my shiny new Sycophant badge.  I'm off to go give ignorant advice on random topics!

"You should try grizzly hunting with a taser.  It's safe and eco-friendly!"

"Anyone can juggle chainsaws.  Just ask Lefty."

"You don't need shampoo.  Use napalm instead.  It smells great and leaves a tingly feeling."

"My Pentium II PC with 2 GB RAM octo-boots into one of eight different operating systems including Windows 95, ME, 2000, XP, 7, 8, SuSE Linux 11.2, and OS X 10.8.  I run six simultaneous instances of Omnisphere, Reason, Superior 2.0 and Kontakt (for my vuvuzela samples).  It all works great because I use a SoundBlaster card."

Hey, this sycophant thing is easier than it seems!

Also significant or insignificant as it may be, Cake does keep putting out newer & newer versions quite often instead of staying with a version while ironing out and fine tuning it to be considered generally stable (8.5 being one of the better versions). I would think it's better to have a good base product and improve on it to make it the best possible.

The folks at Camel Audio have that concept down pretty well. They've been improving on Alchemy as well as the other few plugs since they first came out and have been keeping their customers very happy with those limited products. This might not be the best analogy as it's not a DAW, but the concept seems (at least to me) to be heading in the right direction.

I think the whole idea is to pay on the installment plan now and in 10 years SONAR X will be working great on Windows 8.
