The best article I've read was one written by a guy in a Brooklyn paper IIRC, one that was a bit more music oriented. That's the first and the only time I saw a journalist who actually put the emphasis on the technical stuff like her belting while hanging upside down and spinning and kicking.

I always love the Cirque music and the band. It is always memorable.

So, as the article stated,  Rains better half is opera trained, but played in a metal band in Montreal.
Did you play guitar in that band Rain?

Nah, I didn't play w/ them. But they kicked some major butts the few times I saw them. I wasn't really into big metal that much back then, but they have an interesting angle. 
 
She sings pretty much anything from opera to the obvious Joplin to Zeppelin, AC/DC, Maiden and beyond.
 
As for Hagen, I think she provided much of the inspiration when they developed the vocals for the snake lady act.
