I think this better:

There is something about listening to virtuosos honoring a great song that I especially enjoy.

That's really awful

I'm not even sure that they're playing the same tune as each other

It just sounds like a right pretentious load of bollocks to my untrained ears.

It saddens me to think that you have concluded that there is something pretentious about 2 guys sitting around playing guitar.

Or someone enjoying listening to it.

Or both.

:-(

Listening now..tho not watching...and although they both are a bit melisma prone...who isn't these days?....still a nice rendition. Have to agree with Mike here. Two pros. Lovely. Absolutely lovely.

Right on,Jeff...
Check out "Trio Sylvain Luc"  with Renaud Garcia-Fons.
To me Garcia-Fons is a (the?) master on 5-string contra-bass*.

They're also in a group with Ballake Sissoko (on kora)
 if you scout around.

*Yep. 5-string

These guys definitely have it together. I'm a temporary jazz enthusiast and I temporarily enjoyed this. Thanks for posting the links.

Not to say it does get better but
George Barnes with Duncan James is sure worth a listen.
No links...at work but if you like jazz guitar it's worth the effort.

Or George and Bucky.  That's a treat too.
