  • MC6-Replace MIDI instruments by my own VST Instruments Possible?

Hi!
I just bought Music Creator 6 (sounds good) and I'm trying to replace a MIDI instrument by one of my VST instruments by Insert but each time, MC6 crashes with an unknown error. I'm wondering now if it is possible to do it. Could you help me please?

Note that I wish to replace Cakewalk Studio instruments by my own VSTis and the only option I have is with the Insert menu since there is no VST rack showing, and the VST Effects is greyed. I cannot add any either as I usually do with other DAWS.
I created a few MIDI songs a long while ago and I wish to remix them properly with my own sounds.

Also, (since I do not have a keyboard available at the moment) I need to configure my sound card (Realtek HD, in Windows 7 64 bits) to act as an input and output but the only option I have is Microsoft synth which I cannot change.
Could I be doing something wrong?

Thank you for your advice.

what is the name of this VSTi?

the instrument will not show up in the VST rack until it is inserted.  there should be 2 ways to insert it.  1) from the browser  2) from the insert menu.

if this is a native 64bit VSTi, it will not work.  you have to run 32bit VST's and VSTi's with MC6 which is a 32bit application.

First, the factory sound card is not a good sound card to use with MC and synths.

Next... the synth needs to be added to the list through the PLug in Manager so it will show up in the list.

You can then do the INSERT SYNTH or you can manually add a midi track and an audio track and insert the synth in the audio track FX bin and link the midi source output to the synth.  either method will work.

Some synths may not work, but if their code is well written, they should work. I have not seen a single synth fail to work that has been added to my synth plug in list and comes from a reputable source.

There are many that I already use in another program, Like Wusikstation32, Proteus VX, Kontakt 4,.. all 32 bit VSTis. Also, those others from HGFortune, and others.

Let me explain. Maybe I'm not doing what I should when loading a MIDI file. I go to the File Menu, click Open, choose a MIDI song, load it and it plays Ok with MC6. But when I want to change the sound and replace it with a VSTi, I click on a track, then on the Insert Menu/Virtual Synths (Cannot say how it is in English but in French it's "Synthés Virtuels", I have the French version.) It shows my list of VSTis that appears (with the missing ones not appearing of course ) but when I try to load one from there, anyone, the program crashes with a message popup notifying me of an error of exception (alas, too bad I cannot upload you a capture file of this message here), then asking me to save my file before MC6 closes down.

I will try to translate what is written on the message:

A fatal error has occurred.
Module:C:/ProgramFilesx86/Cakewalk/Music Creator 6/Music Creator 6_EXE
A Dump file on the incident has been created here:
c:/Users/MyName/AppData/Roaming/Cakewalk/Music Creator 6/Mini Dumps/Title of my song_06192012_084344.dmp
Exception code: c0000005
Address:004080DB:0018EA84:776DFACA
Because of this error, Music Creator will have to close abnormally.
Do you wish that Music Creator tries to save a recuperation copy of your work? (YES or NO)

And That's it! Just by trying to load a VST, I had this appearing.
I hope it helps. Thank you!

I would suggest sending this dump file to cakewalk support.  open a support ticket and attach the dump file.

this looks like a problem which is likely beyond our capability here in the forum.

Thanks Guitarhacker for this precision, but I already knew that the sound card wasn't a good choice since I have read some nice tutorials about it. Nonetheless, I still can play more than 8 synth tracks (TTS) with effects added, with no problems at all. I've made a few tests with the configuration panel (latency) and found a good compromise, at least for my use and my PC configuration.

Thank you again but all my Synths are already added in the Plug in Manager and most of them have been tested in other DAWs as well and work perfectly. Wusik, Proteus VX and Kontakt 4 work well with other DAWs.
On some of my MIDI songs (many have less), I have more than 12 tracks and it plays beautifully in MC6. Still, when I insert a Synth, any Synth, it crashes with a dump file announcement.

I will try your other advice about adding an audio track and inserting the Synth in the FX bin and linking the MIDI source output to the Synth. Hope it works!

Thanks!

Sorry but I made a search for the file and couldn't find it anywhere in my computer. I searched for the whole string, parts of it, single words, extension only, look like, all drives but to no avail.

I will try to re-install Music Creator 6 and see what happens if I try again.

it's supposed to be here:
c:/Users/MyName/AppData/Roaming/Cakewalk/Music Creator 6/Mini Dumps/Title of my song_06192012_084344.dmp

Thank you but it is exactly what and where I searched for without success. As I mentioned, I searched for the whole string (with my real name and title of the song), then parts of the string, up to Music Creator 6, then up to Cakewalk, then again only the word Mini Dumps, the title of my song with the number and the extension only.

I will try again, in case I made an error...

EDIT: Ok! Found out why I couldn't find it. It is a hidden file. Changed my folder options so that they show and I finally found the culprit.
I will now subscribe for a ticket. Thanks!
