Hi all.....i need some help from you guys in doing this.....

All my X1 projects are on my older machine's (32 bit) HDD and I'd like to transfer them into my new (X2)64xbuild. I do have 3 HDD's in my new build (1 for OS, 1 for Projects, & 1 for Samples). Should I just remove the older Project hard drive, install it into the new machine, and then move the Project file folders?
or
Is there more elegant/efficient way to do this?

Nope at least not to me is there a better way to do it. Just mount it temporary in the new computer providing you can read the disk drive (which should happen) and copy the files to the new harddrive where you want them (or the harddrive you want them on).

Afterall there are much slower ways to do it, so depending if you want to make DVD's for all the projects and then store them and put into the DVD drive of your new computer and read them which may take a few days, or like stated above and take an hour or so to copy everything.

Thanks spacealf.

I did this with my samples drive and transferred about 450 - 500GB Gb which took about an hour IIRC. I know my Projects should be much less than 1/2 of that and should be a quick process. I'm still amazed at the speed of this machine.....soooo nice!! :)
I just wan't to be sure about the safety of not losing anything within my projects in a direct transfer like this.

I do have them networked, but then I'll have to depend on the download (slow) speeds of my connection and I'm sure it'll be a few hours if its just 3-5GB's. I'm guessing it might be closer to 20GB's or little more.

It should take less than 1/2 hour to remove the HDD, copy the files, and reinstall the HDD back into the old pc. :))

You just need something to carry the bits from one machine to the other.  Peronally, I use ants.

I would just take the external backup HD from my old machine and attach it to the new machine.

Um, you do have a backup drive don't you?

The only thing is one hard disk is the Master and the other is the slave. I have not done copying in a while but make sure the drive you put in is set the correct way, or take out one of the existing drives that you will be sure not to use and make your old drive the same as that drive - whether a master or a slave depending on which Interrupt Channel it is put on in the computer.

Ah which reminds me that I bought a second drive to put in my new computer and I have not done that yet. I know that probably the DVD is the master on one Interrupt Channel and the Hard Disk already in the computer is the master on the other one. I just have to make the new one a slave setting hard disk and put it in on either Interrupt channel SATA whatever.

I do have a USB2.0 external backup HD (it's been so long since I fired up my old DAW that I forgot about my external drive).
I'm thinking it still might be faster to do the transfer if I do this by installing the Internal HD rather than going the External USB2.0 route (my MB does have six SATA 6 Gbps ports).
