I saw U2 on the unforgettable fire tour and was really pulled into the music and vibe. That was the last time I could get a ticket to see them in Toronto. They sell out in minutes and the scalpers charge hundreds. They're too famous now for a man of average means to go see them. Canada is too big to go on a road trip to see a rock band.

I always let it slide the first time.  ;)

I find that many of their big fans are as much into the message as they are the music.  Bono seems to have done a good job through the years of crafting this personality of spiritualism that appeals to a lot of their fans. For me I find I like a song or two an album and can't stand the rest. I buy the collections with all the big hits and enjoy those and leave the rest.

@Craigb- That's so funny I nearly fell out of my chair when I read that! But that is exactly what so many U2 fans just love.

and successful - Just watching a TV program about 20 best artist or bands of all time and U2 is among such

giants like Pink Floyd, Queen, Michael Jackson, etc etc. I mean come on, those guys from U2 barely could play
on their instruments...Granted they have few nice songs and original style (accomplished willy-nilly because of lack of instrumental skills)
but how they can be even compared to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple....it's not same league.

Good PR and the money to use it!

You'd be surprised how easy it is to burn a few dollars when you can't lose. Even Kiss had a massive PR factory!

I think Henry Rollins Sums up U2 Brilliantly....something about ugly fat women and a rhythm section that is just........

I don't understand, how does that sum up U2?

Sorry, must be an Aussie thing where you try to remember another's incredibly accurate quote, but you don't remember the "exact", way it was written/said, so you just tell of the harsh/scary accurate bits, you can remember[that was such a perfect description of how badly the rhythm section suck, especially, compared to Sabbath or Zeppelin]and If the people reading IT,know of the "quoter"i.e. Henry Rollins's spoken word "gig's,where he mimcks or explains in lurid detail, why U2 are as so incredibly "overrated",or just how hilariously Awesome,Ronnie James Dio was, when he announced LOOKOUT!.........priceless.

In the middle of a concert in Ireland, U2 stopped playing and Bono began clapping his hands, slowly, rhythmically as the crowd grows quiet...  "Everytime I clap my hands, a child dies in Africa" Bono proclaims.  After a brief silence, a voice from the crowd yells "Then stop fooking doing it!!!"

Ok...ROFL.

Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings!

I don't mind - I even like - U2's philanthropic bent.  What I don't like is how they guilt you into it.  It's your passion.  Great.  My passion is to give my money to charities in other ways, and I don't need Bono casting aspersions on it.
