has given it's last faded white screen, .exe not responding and locking up one of my PCs for the last time.
I'm done with it. It's junk and has proven itself. No difference from how it performs. It was the only
program that wouldn't work on my old PC and is the only program that won't on my new one.
Story has been told. I will not waste another minute of my time with it.

It will do it playing nothing but a .wav drum loop and Spectrasonics Stylus (as single instrument or multi).
Just hit play and wait for X2a to get confused and kill itself taking the PC with it.
Does it everything like clockwork.

And if Cake needs to know anything to fix that problem....they can get a computer and Stylus and go for it without me. Done with X2a - in case that wasn't clear the first time.

The Maillard Reaction
I had an epiphany using my new Pro Tools 11 install yesterday.

It actually felt fun to have to learn stuff all over again... I think it's the fact that I am optimistic about the future of my relation with it. I am lost in the new interface but I don't feel abandoned or put out to pasture.

I'm sorry to hear that X2 isn't bringing you what Roland thinks it is offering.

Good luck.

best regards,
mike

That's what I've been looking at.

My wife wanted to see what I was talking about this morning before heading off to work.
If I don't have something from them that will record by my Thanksgiving time off -when I spend
vacation time with it so I can enjoy recording...game over and I'll be trying out Pro Tools too.

Production and everything else around here is like slow-motion kaos on a sinking ship- like everybody is trying to plug leaks with stale bread or jumping over. Oh well.

Mesh
I just installed X2a last evening (for the first time) on my new build and I'm hoping I'll have better results. I've practically built everything around X2's requirements and if it doesn't work as advertised or at least work well enough not hinder my basic needs, I'll be really PO.

Sorry to hear about your X2 woes Michael. Maybe, Presonus Studio 1 (or is t 2?) might also be an option....

I hope it works great for you Mesh.
Spectrasonics stuff cost a lot of money and I expect them to work.
They work fine with 8.5 should I want to go backwards.
( I've noticed that Cakewalks stuff isn't regarded to highly by Spectrasonics...ya
kinda see that when ya start looking around for installing their stuff on hosts...wonder why
that is?...not a good sign to me when one of the best in the business don't recognize you.)

Lot of options but I've resolved my decision. I'll see what Cake does and if it doesn't work then
I'll go to Pro Tools . I'm curious about Pro Tools anyway and I just don't trust others opinons about software now. To many variables so I'll have to make my own determinations about the value. No guarantee with it but man...the old Chevy won't run for ya there is always Ford to give a shot. :) Sometimes "reasons" just don't matter....just a change can do ya good.

At least I know for a fact what X2a is worth to me. Absolutely nothing. All my questions have been answered...finally...so that's cool and really glad about that. I like to know what I'm working with and what I'm doing -so I'm good with trying something new since I have no idea what's happening with Cake and to the point I really don't care.
And now I have a time line too! Not sitting here wondering what they're going to do and when..Pfftt..I'm playing this game by rules from now on.

Is Pro Tools 64 bit? or would that even matter?
(I know it matters to Freddy) :)

Thanks Jan.
Really no problem now. I was lost about what to do but now I have a plan.
Not sure Cakes problems are over though.

OK, let's assume Spectrasonics is the ONLY thing between your computer and X2a working.

If it were me, I'd either go full Pro-Tools/Reaper/Studio One Pro right now or.....

load 8.5.3 (since you know it), do my Spectrsonics work in 8.5.3, export tracks to X2a an carry on until X3 is out. This of course assumes that everything else in X2a works except spectrasonics.

Also, I'd spend the paltry sum of 1/2 hour of consulting with Jim Roseberry on the phone to go over every component if your build to see if you have a rogue. My second DAW build (the one I use today sucessfully) had a mobo problem with Firewire. Consultation with Jim uncovered that I chose the wrong mobo. Swapped it out for new one and I'm a happy camper.
