Hidden behind that fake full stack was an ADA 2x12 with a Line 6 POD Pro and a Peavey Classic 50/50 turned up to 4...  The FOH guy saw the setup from the front and asked to have it turned down until we showed him what was really going on - another interesting observation about how much impression counts.

It wouldn't hurt to mention that those were *tube watts*.

The stack of McIntosh amps used in that set up are the main reason we have Global Warming. ;-)

Actually they were solid state McIntosh MC2300 amps.

There was a story that the Dead were competing with the US Navy to get every available amp, as that much clean power wasn't readily available in those days.

The Dead won.

The way I heard the story... they went with the solid state option after most of the tube amps had burst into flames because the speakers were shorting out when the voice coils melted... or something like that.

I was wrong. It was 28,800 watts.

The Wall of Sound was comprised of 586 JBL speakers and 54 Electrovoice tweeters powered by 48 MacIntosh 2300 Amps (48 X 600 = 28,800 Watts of continuous (RMS) power.
