Hi, this is a continuation of a previous thread that completely changed subject.
 
I would like to create backtracks and play on top of them live. I got me Music Creator 6 three days ago, and started working on downloaded midi files. So far so good. I was adviced to create my own audio tracks for things other than drums and bass. Actually I play guitar and my fiancee plays bass and keyboards. So we will probably be recording audio tracks for these instruments, for anything we will not be playing live. For example, I will record my rythm guitar and play lead guitar... my fiancee will record the piano and play bass. I did some tests this morning and the results are promising.
 
I've seen some ads about Studio X1 and when two worlds colide, or something like that, saying it is appropriate for live presentations as well as recording. What would be the advantages of using Studio X1 for my live presentations?
 
Also, can I use the digital piano as a midi controler and fire up tracks in Music Creator using it?
 
I was also told to create audio backtracks and use them from a device other then the computer. And that I should not trust a computer that can have "stage freeze". Any other advice about using MC for my live presentations?

For a live performance you want as few things in the loop that can go wrong at the most inopportune moments. 

That is why we suggested recording your projects in MC and get them right..... then MUTE the tracks you will play live..... and export them as waves and burn a CD to take to shows. 

Remember, you can also have harmony vocals on the CD where you are singing the leads live and playing acoustic guitar...... (for example) and your wife can pay and sing her parts live also. 

I have done it this way in the past for the few live performances I have done and it works well..... no worries of a crashed computer in the show.

Exactly, that's how I am doing it. I had some trouble figuring out how to output the midi sound from the soft synths, but now it is all good. There are options when we add the soft synth to add the output tracks for that. Now I am checking them.

Yes you can, assuming it has a MIDI output.
Set the input of the MIDI track to your MIDI device and the output to a soft synth and play.

I probably do not understand MIDI enough to make the right questions, but we will get there, eventually.
 
Ok, I was able to connect the MIDI out AND MIDI in of my keyboard to my computer (man, that cable is exepnsive here in the south hemisphere!). And I can not only record what I play in the keyboard in MC, but also play multiple MC midi tracks in the digital piano (and they sound great, by the way).
 
I learned somewhere that MIDI can be used to send not only musical notes, but also control from one device to another. So the idea I had was that I could, for example, hit a specific key on the keyboard at specific points in the song, that would fire a certain MIDI guitar riff in a soft synth, throguh Music Creator (or other software). Is it possible?
 
I noticed that these days every band has a computer on stage, usually operated by the keyboard guy. I guess I still don't get how musicians use computers in live presentations.

I think it's possible, but I don't know anyone who does that. And I think it may have something to do with the keyboard's abilities, too.

Yes, but you have the concept wrong.  MIDI can be used to send control codes to other MIDI devices and can trigger different things on different MIDI devices depending on what they're each capable of, but it's not NOTES that you send to the other devices, it's controller codes.  you have to have MIDI CC codes to send to the other devices and the other devices need to know what to do with those codes.
 
using a computer can make things very flexible, tho.  but also, IMO, very scary because of the volatility of computer systems.  you could use something like Cantible to control softsyths from your keyboard, set up soundsets, etc.  it's very powerful.
