Believe it or not, I actually did find a way to get the vst's to recognize my laptop keyboard as a midi keyboard...
I downloaded probably 10 different programs, but 2 of them joined together works. They are loopbe, and midi-ox. Loopbe is a virtual midi driver, and midi-ox seems like its the front end (you have to change the midi input to loopbe on the track). With using the keyboard it of course only gives me a range of 2 octaves or a little less, but I have something else called Sweet Little Piano 32, that changes the layout and makes all of the keys playable so there is more range. But the SLP for some reason brings the sound down to about 1/4 of where it should be :/. Beggers can't be choosers I guess.
Just wanted to throw that out there in case someone comes along with the same question I had. I'm sorry I dont have any links, but like I said, I amassed a ton of crap trying to get this thing to work. If anyone wants the programs (they are really small) I can email them to whoever wants them.
