I've been searching for this type of sound for a while, sort of like what Ringo did in his 'tea towel' days. Fully-damped drum sounds without any ringing whatsoever, just good solid hits.
 
I previewed all the AD2 AddPaks and walked away with Black Oyster, Session and Vintage Dry, the three that sounded to my ear to have the driest sounds with the least ringing.
 
So, from here do I just need to compress or is there something else I need to do as well?
 
Second question: Is there a way to use the MIDI from EZD loops with AD2 sounds?

You might try editing the amplitude envelope for each drum you want to dampen.
I do this for kicks when I like the sound but want to get rid of the ringing.
Play around with shortening the envelope.

After you get the envelope where the drum is sounding damped, EQ out some of the high end.

Thanks, microamp. There are a few songs I've already lost the original MIDI for or did them in EZD, so this technique will come in handy to tame those.

I used to use Rings Beat Kit in Session Drummer...I know you asked about AD2.  I used a Fairchild VST and then used a shelf eq and rolled off about 3db down to 2khz.
