I ordered all my components for my new build from NewEgg and during the tracking process of my shipment, I noticed that they ship from various locations.....including China!!

All my components were locally shipped from USA (NJ, CA, Tenn., DC, etc...), except for one.....a USB 3.0 20 Pin 2 Ports Front Panel Floppy Disk Bay Hub Bracket Cable which is shipped all the way from China. I would think this part should be easily available in the good ol USA and avoid their internal shipping costs??? (free shipping for me though....).

I actually emailed NewEgg thinking my order was shipped to HANGZHOU, CHINA, but apprently found out that it's being shipped from China and the tracking details they provided are somewhat confusing:

Tracking number XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Ship date June 28, 2013, 12:51 pm
Destination HANGZHOU, CHINA

(That's all I got regarding tracking)

Here's (part of) NewEgg's reply to my inquiry: "The item is sold by our marketplace seller named Electronic Depot through Newegg. They ship the item from China."

Just thought it was odd to be getting a somewhat "common" part, all the way from China....

I actually looked at parts like that and they are surprisingly rare.

What I really want is something that would go in an unused external 5.25" bay and give me access to a variety of USB2, USB3 and SATA ports that are going unused on my MB. Since extra ports on the MB and empty external bays are not exactly unusual, you'd think people would make such things.

The only thing remotely close to what I wanted had to come from China, so I decided to wait until I really needed the front panel ports.

Interesting.  looks like they're moving more toward an "Amazon type" approach.

It's a way to get more return on the traffic you have earned.

I happened upon this recently while looking for other stuff:

There are lots of hubs out there, but personally I'm just looking for port replicators with no electronics in the middle, as I already have plenty of unused ports available on the MB.

I think I just "assumed" that it was a common part, but I stand corrected. I really didn't look elswhere for it as I just "happened" to see that part when looking for something else, and thought that was an excellent hub bracket to have in front. I'm also adding a NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion for more USB 2.0 access. :)

I was shopping for a USB2 bracket myself:

Actually, international shipping is cheap. Look on eBay and you can find thousands of inexpensive pieces with cheap <5.00 or free shipping on items costing under 10.00. And for most things I have ordered shipped from China, the shipping time is less than a week to my house. Amazon.com should be shaking in their boots, and good luck collecting your state sales taxes America.
