We went to our favorite beach, Mexico Beach, Florida (panhandle). Spent every day surf fishing, caught a lot of small fish... nothing big but it was a great diversion. I think I am going to buy a waverunner and set it up with two pole holders and a cooler before I go again.
One day there was a bit of seaweed floating and the kids netted a juvenile lionfish and  a BUNCH of other baby fish hiding in the weed. I think a lot were triggerfish. I reported the lionfish to the FL fish and game and to the reef association. Lionfish are a real threat to reef life and do not belong in the gulf.


 
HOWEVER... There is NO place like home!!

I will never understand why people from the deep south go to the beach on the hottest days of the year... I like going there when it's 68*, sunny, and dry. :-)

Because their kids and grandkids go... we are going back in October or maybe November. Going to try and time it to hit the pompan run. Actually it wasn't that hot on the beach, around 90 but the water was like being in a hot tub.

Thanks Spacey. I wish you could have been there. I love surf fishing, even if I only catch whiting and pinfish. I like to surf fish using an ultralight rod and reel. Small fish and the current make it fun. I also use a 10' rod with a big spinning reel and use cut bait on it. I only got one hit on it all week though. I usually catch a small shark or some sailfin catfish... nada this time. Earlier in the year there are bluefish and the spanish mackrel just finished their run. Like I said.. I need a waverunner... I'll be bad to the bone then!! Fish beware!
