When I saw Yes in concert...must have been 71 or 72 a little band that had only a minor charting tune was the opening act...they were called IIRC The Eagles. Now that's creative booking.
Yeah.... I caught them at JFK stadium back in 72 IIFC... it was in July. Talk about a strange lineup....
The opening act was the Philadelphia Mummers.... in costume, feathers and all...
I think Gary Wright (dream weaver ) was next... 5 keyboard players and a drummer....
then some relatively unknown kid came on and played his new album in it's entirety.... Peter Frampton. (Comes Alive) Up to this point I had only known him as a guitarist in Humble Pie....
Then the headline act....YES, came on stage as the sun was going down. By this time....(the show started at around 4 in the afternoon) it was near 9 pm.... the girl I took to the show..(long story there) ..well she was wanting to go home.... she wanted to see Frampton.... I said no, we're staying to see YES. She was not very happy.....
Yes was amazing. They had just released Relayer IIRC, because, in addition to all their classic hits to that time, they played Relayer... in it's entirety, note for note. It was a complete side of the album. 20+/- minutes in length.
The day had turned cool after the hot July sun... actually kind of cold, and several bonfires were lit on the football field in JFK stadium.... YES was using a green laser.... so it was really neat seeing it shoot through the smoke and the fog coming from the marshland near the stadium. They had one of their spaceship looking things hanging over the stage and the laser came from it.
Great show. Weird lineup.
