Got my 'deluxe' version (with the 3 track bonus CD) yesterday.

So far, I've listened through three times, once with headphones and twice in the car.

I have to say this is a very impressive album - some really excellent tracks and no duffers.

Ozzy sounds as good as he ever did. He'd probably be the first to admit that he's no Dio, but the timbre of his voice is a wonderful confirmation that you're listening to the 'real' Sabbath.

Tony Iommi is on top form too, and his signature Laney rig is absolutely dripping with tone.

Same with Geezer Butler, he's his usual rock solid self, and he still flies tastefully about the fretboard when the mood takes him. The sound they went with for the bass has a bit of a growl to it, and it really works well.

The drummer is excellent too. Mind you, it would have been the icing on the cake if they could have sorted out the behind-the-scenes problems and had Bill Ward complete the line up. Or even Vinny Appice, who played with Iommi and Butler in Heaven & Hell.

Thanks for the info, Steve.
Looks like this will be my next purchase.

Krist, the various mp3 tracks I listened to on Grooveshark before I decided to get the album really don't do any justice to the CD audio. Whether they're just very low bitrate versions or the music isn't translating well to mp3, the sheer 'depth' of the CD really brings the recordings to life.

This is why I never waste my dosh purchasing mp3 music

For a taster, check out the tone on the guitar solo (starts about 5:15) in Live Forever, and then imagine that in lovely plumptious 16/44100/1411

My copy arrived in the post today. Not had chance to listen yet but it sounds like a good 'un.

Sabbath were my first ever concert way back in 1969 at Torquay Town Hall.

If anyone's still planning on getting it, I'd tentatively suggest ordering the 'deluxe' edition with the 3-song bonus CD. All three are very good tunes (I especially like Methademic), and fit in well with the rest of the 'standard' album.

Mind you, I do think it's a little money-grubbing to do this - it's not like they need the dosh is it. My first thought was that these extra songs would have put the album length over the 80 minute limit, but that's not even the case.

Most 'deluxe'/'special' versions of albums you pay a premium for nowadays seem to contain more than just a few extra tracks - maybe a DVD disc or similar, or in the case of reissues/remasters, they often include demo versions and alternate takes for the completists. For example, recent (new, as opposed to reissued) Saxon albums have scored very heavily on the value for money stakes with the variety and quality of the stuff released on the bonus discs.

Incidentally, for those in the UK, check out the latest issue of Classic Rock - there's a good interview in there, plus the magazine comes in a large fold out cross-shaped cover/poster.

I even took a photee of it for you...

When I was 13 or 14 me and the drummer got thrown
out of the bass players house by his mom and told never
come back when she heard us learning Iron Man.

Yeah, I'll probably get a copy.

Methademic (from the bonus CD) has quickly become my favorite tune off the album.
