I'm thinking about getting the full version of something. TH2 isn't doing it for me, but I have been playing around with my old Guitar rig 4 from X1 and I downloaded Amplitube 3 free. They both seem pretty nice. I was very impressed with the tones in Amplitube, but how are the effects in the full version? I have a HD500 so I don't see a reason to consider pod farm (unless it's better than the pod). Anyway I would like to hear your opinions if you would care to respond.

Don't forget to consider Scuffham Amps S-Gear 2.1; it is only three amps, but they are so realistic.  I have said this before but mean it everytime:  S-Gear is the closest thing to having a hand-wired boutique amp in a vst.  I also like Amplitube for their Fender line--they have nailed the Fender amps but that is as it should be since Fender licensed them.  Amplitube has a huge variety of other amps and their Custom Shop allows you to pick and choose, to buy what you like;  you can also try them out for a couple of days to take it for a test drive.  While I also have GR5 and have tried the full version of TH2, I find that S-Gear is my first choice and Amplitube is second.  If S-Gear doesn't fit the mix, then Amplitube has about everything else covered.  This is just what fits my ears and styles (prog rock, jazz, fusion, blues, classic rock).

It is absolutely fantastic for saturated bluesy, fushion, singing lead tones.  The Duke is my favorite amp.  I also use the Redwirez IR's (purchased separately) and my S-Gear is so sweet!  The Jackal and the Stealer sound like vintage Marshall and Soldano amps.  S-Gear recently released an upgrade.  It is native 64bit.  While it models just these three amps, it does so impeccably.  Singing saturation while still having transparency so you can hear the strings and the differnent pick articulations and your pickups.  I can't say enough about S-Gear 2.1!

I have POD Farm Platinum, Guitar Rig 5, S-Gear, Ampltube 3 and TH2 Sonar.  IMO Guitar Rig 5 is easily the best with Pod Farm a close, but definite, 2nd.  I don't use Amplitube and S-Gear is a distant 3rd.  Just my experience, YMMV
