Adobe (and i like the staff at adobe) is not known for giving away anything. Someone confused the downloads they are making available for people who already own these older products because they are doing away with the server that hosts them for those who need to reinstall.

On behalf of Adobe Systems Incorporated …
You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!
What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don’t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See <http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930>.

It's too late for those poor bastards now. It's in the open. With serial numbers and tens of thousands have already downloaded.

I'm going to uninstall Audition 3 now- oh well, good while it lasted!

i think it was just an honest misunderstanding. Not the first time big companies have jumped the gun and published something that was off. At least forbes owned up to it and printed the update. If it had been any company other than adobe, i might have believed it. Just didn't make sense for them to give something away for free that could still compete with products they sell.

I think its terrible!!

Gizmodo, mashable, and all the other, "12 reasons I had to quite reading linkedIN," blogs are 4th rate media outlets...

I have more respect for the National Enquirer.

Its really kind of funny, actually. A chain reaction society, we are. And if it had been a virus we would have all ingested it like baby birds taking worms from the mother bird without question. Free is indeed a magical word that excites people of all kinds.

thing is it's not far from the norm.. e.g. thq freebie game... and the arturia moog thing a while back

and adobe pretty much left their links open .. the links I got linked directly to adobe.. so you think.. must be legit then
